Seems like ages until the next UK Womad but someone has to post here otherwise the countdown will end and who knows what might happen then?

Just what I was thinking olirow... does time pass without any measure of it's passing? Probably. I'm feeling tired and wonky... maybe I'm 90 without realising it. Must keep counting. We'll get there eventually.

I've been wrong about when Peter will time his big announcements, but it would make sense he might make an announcement on either what would have been the opening day of this years WOMAD if it had happened. Or he will make it at his during his mini WOMAD coming up? Fingers crossed it's soon, so people can start planning again. As for me, I think 2028 may be the earliest I might be able to venture that way again. No regrets, but have a lot of house stuff to take care of the next few years. Especially, if I hope to ever retire and not have to worry about major home repairs and/or updates. 😉 I'll be OK, I will be able to live vicariously through you all. 😀

Have I missed something? I know something was half promised back in November - a one day event or something like that - but I heard nothing more about that so thought it had fallen by the wayside.

I've not heard of an official mini Womad either so I am intrigued. There is an unofficial WOMAD party in Malmesbury though (all proceeds go to Ukraine): www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/no-woemadness-malmesbury-festival-night-for-ukraine-tickets-1316423822089

Hope it is a success and sounds like there are plenty in Malmesbury who are missing having WOMAD on their doorstep.

No camping. I think it might be something on their Facebook page. Since I'm not on Facebook I have limited access.

No, I don’t think so. Back in November they said there might be a one day WOMAD style event in the summer but they never mentioned that again. There have been people on the Facebook pages asking what happened to it, and since the announcement about an announcement about an announcement a couple of weeks ago a couple of people have referred to it and wondered why it never came about. I think it’s probably too late in the day now as the British summer festival season is in full swing and if they were going to do something it would need to be publicised, tickets sold etc well in advance. I was talking to a couple of regular WOMAD traders at another event in mid June who had heard nothing and they were saying that their income had taken a big hit as WOMAD was their most profitable event of the summer. If WOMAD were going to do something, they’d need traders for their own income so I woukd have thought their regular traders would be involved.

Maybe someone can help me. Maybe I misread something? I think it was going to be in more of a small venue form. Or maybe several small venues with some international acts. No trade fair required.

Maybe someone can help me. Maybe I misread something? I think it was going to be in more of a small venue form. Or maybe several small venues with some international acts. No trade fair required. Yes WOMAD said that back in November, ‘ a special UK event next year (so 2025) to give a taste of the WOMAD experience to be announced in the next few weeks’ , but it was never mentioned again. People keep asking on the Facebook page but no one has heard anything more so reckon that’s been abandoned. I think he’d need some trade to help finance it, ticket sales alone are not usually enough, and he’d certainly need food and drinks traders for any sort of outdoor event. Trade stalls play a big part in financing festivals, whether they are food and drink or retail, and food and drink, at least, is essential. It wouldn’t be a trade fair but it would need traders! Obviously if it was indoors, in a concert venue, that would be different as they would have their own facilities and he wouldn’t need traders. There was also talk at one time of several small festivals/ festivals who were not operating in 2025, getting together for a one day event, can’t remember who was organising it, not WOMAD, but people on the Facebook page were wondering if that was what he meant and if WOMAD would be one of the festivals involved. That has also gone quiet. Even small one day events take a lot of time and money to organise; you have to start selling tickets early before people get booked up/spent out and I think it’s too late for anything this summer, autumn even unless he’s going for something in the late autumn or winter in which case he’d have to find an indoor venue. My daughter has just organised a small, local one day festival ( comedy not music) and even that took a huge amount of work, sponsorship, publicity. The acts were announced, publicity started and tickets put on sale a few months ago for a July event. All indoor venues with their own catering, so she didn’t have to worry about that, but if it had been outdoors, people would have expected a bar, coffee stalls & food stalls. On the other side of the coin, there are quite a few festivals organised by individuals/ small event organisers which feature international artists. One in Malmesbury over WOMAD weekend, some in the Bristol area, Purbeck is introducing a number of International acts this year, and there’s Malmesbury Folk & Roots in September so even if there’s no mini WOMAD there are opportunities to see international artists. I have also noticed that many of the UKs small folk related music festivals have sold out of day tickets in advance - which is good news for the future of our festivals - unless it’s because so many of the bigger festivals, not just WOMAD, have been cancelled! We can live in hope that a mini WOMAD is on the cards but it’s looking less likely as time goes on, especially as the announcement was going to be in the next few weeks back in November! Keep everything crossed! Maybe he will announce something maybe next Thursday .

Hi All. Just thought I would mention here that the countdown can begin properly now. Womad announced on Facebook last Thursday that it will return in 2026 23-26 July. They haven't said where though yet!
