Does anyone have any decent images of the WOMAD flags at dusk, preferably with the site lights on?
I'm looking for photographic references for a painting which I may or may not ever get round to doing but I think would look awesome in our newly-redecorated hallway.

I reckon everyone has a 'flag shot' of some sort. They are soo beautiful and iconic.

That's the sort of thing Jax, yes and should be a good start. Thanks! We have tons of flag shots but unfortunately none from dusk and I like the contrast with the site lights. If I close my eyes I can hear the flags by the main stage over the low hum of chatter--first pint of the day pulled from the main stage bar in my hand. Bliss. Any more for any more?

If I close my eyes I can hear the flags by the main stage over the low hum of chatter--first pint of the day pulled from the main stage bar in my hand. Bliss. I can remember crying as the train left Reading station. The last sight of the flags still fluttering in the breeze until next year is still always a tear jerker. I'm sure I've got some night shots somewhere, will have a scout through photos later

The flags are a big part of the Womad magic for me and I too have shed tears when it is time to go home. *sigh*

What a fab project, Sindigo! I'll check with H to see if he has any night time piccies of the arena; mine are daytimers, and almost all flags - it appears we all cry together when we leave!

Thanks SS (and welcome back). Please don't spend too much time searching--I still don't know when I'll find the time to actually get the project off the ground. However, posting about it on here in a public declaration of intent certainly helps galvanise me into action over these things. I certainly shed a little tear last year. We were some of the first people in the campsite (as usual) and owing to circumstance, my having packed Mrs Sindigo and the family off early on the Monday so I could de-camp and pack the other car on my own, I was one of the last to leave. So for the first time, I was able to look back up an almost empty site and have a 'moment' on my own. In between getting almost knocked off my feet and into the mud by the wind.

I'll have a look - I'm sure I've got some photos of the flags at night. And what about the elusive pre-digital Womad photos? I've got a couple I found online (I'll post when I can find them on my laptop...), but kicking myself now for not appreciating how Womad (and festivals in general) would change over time.
