Naffing Brexit.
Something some were aware of but was dismissed as not relevant during the referendum.
The farming programme (radio 4) this morning was talking about sugar production (sugar beet and sugar cane). British sugar beet farmers are going to be hit hard next year when tariffs on sugar imports are lowered next year. Great deal for the Brexiteers 😖. This could mean a lot of farmers packing up plus, what about the additional jobs that will be lost in the sugar refining industry in the uk. Knew this was going to happen when Tate and Lyle said this was a great opportunity for them to profit from, way back in 2016.
What has really got me fuming 😤is that it turns out Tate and Lyle were big doners for the leave campaign and lobbied for this tariff reduction - good for their profits, not good for British farmers, workers etc!
What is even more annoying, Tate and Lyle sugar refining is no longer a UK company, having been bought out by The America Sugar Refining Company in 2010.

Yeah, but don't be surprised if that American company is actually owned by another country. With the shell games and corporations it's hard to say who actually owns what. Sadly, the so called conservative politicians pander to the farmers, but care nothing about them at all. Corporate farms is all they care about. Actual farmers not so much. The tax money given to farmers due to the tariff wars with China in the USA mostly went to corporate farms, not to small individually owned farms. Of course, that leads into the other conundrum. When farmers receive tax money it's 'aid', when poor people get money it's 'welfare.' The reasons are the same, but the perceptions are vastly different. |

Naffing is a very polite word for something so horrific and damaging in so many ways... funded by oveseas billionaires, enabled by homegrown morons.

Billionaires and millionaires with multiple citizenships and passports that they can buy without doing all the pesky immigration stuff the rest of us have to do. Most have residences in places like New Zealand where they can go and hide while they burn the rest of the world down. |

If she had not verbally attacked Ben and a Jerry (after they criticised her approach towards migrants) I would not have bought a tub of their ice cream in solidarity with them, and would not hav3 realised how blooming nice their ice cream is.

Managed to listen to some of the Democratic speakers on the radio while working last night. Very inspirational, Michelle Obama eloquent as always. Just read the couple that stood outside their expensive house brandishing weapons at a peaceful protest will be speaking at the Republican Convention. Oh wait, the man will be speaking while his wife stands by his side. Seriously, anyone that can't see the difference between these two parties deserves what they get. Sadly, the rest of us could be stuck too. With one of Trump's large donors now in charge of the post office, where he holds many a conflict of interest and is trying to sabotage the post office, I'm not sure we may end up with any better of a result than Belarus at this point. I've recognized for a long time the evil in the Republican Party, but must admit, until George W. Bush that it would become absolute. That was the election we should have fought harder for. If we had, there would never have been a 911 under a President Gore, because he would have never defunded the security agencies necessary to protect the USA of such attacks. More importantly, Gore would have never ignored security information warning of an impending attack. Would that prevent every attack? No, but it might have prevented that one. There would be no endless wars. We wouldn't have a President negotiating with the Taliban to give them more control of Afghanistan, not less. The peace treaty between Israel and the UAE is a farce. Oh a more personal grumble, I'm receiving multiple phone calls and voice mails from a scammer claiming to be from Apple about an attack on my account. Funny thing is, I don't own any Apple products.  It is annoying, but going to let a few voicemails pile up before deleting them in bulk. Very annoying, but they have to give up eventually. What I want to know, is how can they change phone numbers so quickly? Shouldn't that be a red flag to whatever phone service they are using that something nefarious is going on? I suppose as long at the phone service is making money, they may just not care. Sigh, what a stupid world we've become. |

I was impressed by Michelle Obama’s speech, showing true empathy with a plea to make a future that will unite Americans rather than rip them apart. Trump and the Republicans answer, two people who aimed weapons at BLM protesters marching past their house.

Russia has sent newscasters to fill in for the striking newscasters striking in Belarus. Likely he'll send troops or mercenaries as well.
You'd have to be an idiot not to find that concerning.
My thoughts go to the people of Belarus that really just wanted to be able to say what they want without disappearing.

Have seen that before. An oil company couldn't understand why a local forest preserve wouldn't exchange a few acres for a lot more acres. I can't remember the exacts. Only their many acres was contaminated and the forest preserve's few were untouched and clean. |

I haven't been watching the RNC convention, but the laws being broken with Trump speaking from the White House, using the military and immigrants as props, all in violation of American election laws. Then just the normal bat crap crazy stuff. I just don't understand the mentality of people drawn to this stuff. Nice of Melania to show up in a Russian military uniform. Seriously, there seem to be no limits as to how stupid Trumpers are.
Must say his son Jr, was funny showing up coked up.
