So I can't get to WOMAD this year, but ACSS are playing at both Larmer Tree and Lakefest, we are free on both weekends I'm kind of thinking Larmer Tree rather than Lakefest, but Lakefest is a lot cheaper. Any thoughts anyone?

What about the rest of the acts SC, apart from ACSS? I would make the decision based on the number of acts that you really want to see.

It looks like we might not make Womad this year either now. We're probably doing Beautiful days instead.

Oh Dear Sindig0, Afro celts are at Beautiful Days too, never been there, a couple of friends of mine used to be regulars there, mostly good reports, but some years disapointed that promised events didn't happen. I would be very interested to get some feedback from you

I know, a shocker and our first year off in 3. Unfortunately, our regular posse have decided to try something different. I'd still rather we did Womad but as we see our friends pretty rarely these days and can only afford to do one this year, realistically, Beautiful Days it is. It's a shame as I find the line-up less inspiring but it's good to change things up once in a while. Besides, we're so tied to the kids' field these days, I rarely get my way anyway. We've been once before and really enjoyed it so I'm hoping this time will yield similar. And if we have a sudden windfall, we'll get to both.

Always nice to mix things up from time to time.
In answer to the question - I agree regarding the line up, see what else floats your boat. Another consideration is the size of the festival and whether you require more choice or perhaps something more intimate.
Lets face it WOMAD as brilliant though it is, is a fairly large festival. Purbeck Folk last year had something that WOMAD lacks, intimacy. And quirkiness. I've not been to either Larmer or Lakefest so interested to hear what they are like

Oh dear SC. At least I'll be there but my nephew has decided to get married on WOMAD Friday. The do is in Brum somewhere, so I'll have to leave CP after my black puddings and go to the do, only to return late or even Sat morning. Horror. I'll be well dischuffed if I miss Grit Orchestra. I'm hoping it will be Baaba Maal on Fri night'cus I saw him at Celtic Connections. Anbody any ideas on timetabling? What will be will be.

Couldn't agree more - even though I changed your quote a bit DM. I stopped going to Womad CP after the second one for a while as I felt it had been sanitised beyond recognition. I may have mentioned before that I'm going to Shambala for the second year running. Shambala has intimacy and quirkiness in abundance and it's cheaper, easier to get to and a lot more friendly. jax2000 is in for a treat when she and Warrior pitch up in their posh campervan this year Blimey hotdrummer, I think I'd be giving that a miss! Good luck with negotiating leaving site and getting back in again.

SC Lamer Tree is just down the road for me & I will going to see ACSS, its a proper festival not like that shambolic village fete at Wickham, it has a good vibe too. Im back to Womad this year but more health issues have cropped up in 2016 and they want me to go to a consultant who measures the age of old dead trees, I'm sure the GP said a denderochronlogist. So it might be my last Womad and it aint quircky enough for me these days. Boomtown Fair has the ACSS but Im way too old & the thought of injesting all those illegal chemicals is frightening.

Well, this Womad had better be good then, DT! I'm not sure how many rings they expect to find - I thought we each had the standard supply....

Hi DT, I hope you are well soon Keep fighting mate! We saw that ACSS was on at Boomtown but didn't even consider it as an option because of the drug issues and general age of the festival goer. Very nearly bought Larmer Tree tickets last night, but checked out the "Line up" and their music samples. To be honest, we both felt that the music was either very "middle of the road, safe and nice" or "Bluegrass" there didn't seem to be any SU:M / Portico Quartet / Kimmo Pohjonen type artists/moments. Lakefest? Not many artists announced yet, but with Primal Scream, Starsailor and Big Country, looks a bit like a festival booking "has-beens" on the cheap. We concluded that it's great to do a festival, but pointless if we just get bored, we don't HAVE to, lets just kick back and see what happens
