Always nice to mix things up from time to time.Lets face it WOMAD as brilliant though it is, is a fairly large festival. WOMAD lacks, intimacy. And quirkiness.
Couldn't agree more - even though I changed your quote a bit DM. I stopped going to Womad CP after the second one for a while as I felt it had been sanitised beyond recognition. I may have mentioned before that I'm going to Shambala for the second year running. Shambala has intimacy and quirkiness in abundance and it's cheaper, easier to get to and a lot more friendly. jax2000 is in for a treat when she and Warrior pitch up in their posh campervan this year Blimey hotdrummer , I think I'd be giving that a miss! Good luck with negotiating leaving site and getting back in again. I haven't much experience of other festivals, but the reason I love Womad, and go every year as a must, is that you get such a very wide diversity of music. I always come away having dicovered something new and exciting. I doubt that you get anything like this at other festivals. As DM said, Womad is relatively big, so you aren't get the intimacy or quirkiness that you may find elselwhere. But I've always found it to have a friendly vibe. As for Shambala being 'easier to get to' PD, it largely depends on where you live!

Perfectly said Rendrags, that is what I was meaning by "SU:M / Portico Quartet / Kimmo Pohjonan type Artists/Moments"

It is SS but Mrs SC is going on a long girlie weekend in Edinburgh at the beginning of July so another visit shortly after might just be overkill plus Mrs SC isn't that excited by Grit Orchestra

I paid for the Friday ticket as I can hang out in the day with a few freinds who go but generally your comments are spot on and the reason I dont make my main festival, if Shamabala or secret garden Party were closer I might look at them twicwe

Well as you know nothings easy SC and same for you dont give up, live long enough to collect your oap pension - that will annoy Cameron for sure. Womad needs to look more like Shambala, just check the website, I 'd love the arboretum to be dressed up.
We went up to the Edinburgh fringe last year as the eldest was in a flat right in the middle and we could rest during the day, great city and has train links to Glasgow etc, did like the city. We parked in someones drive for a week, cheaper than city parking , cheapest parking is at the airport, take the bus or the tram into town.

plus Mrs SC isn't that excited by Grit Orchestra Sounds like a woman after my own heart. Thinking of giving Larmer Tree a go but my friend only wants to do one night! Trying to persuade him to do 5 instead so wish me luck
