Yes, I'm missing the Icelandic and Saturday Night Fever references too ...maybe Womad will reveal their thinking later! Yep, they did on the facebook page: "this was actually John Grant - as he lives in Iceland." "this was Ana Tijoux as her album is called 1977 - which is the year Saturday Night Fever came out!" Tricky as I said

Lura and Roots Manuva. I picked a really bad year to not come to Womad.
*chunter, grumble, moan*

Apart from Les Amazones D'Afrique, I haven't heard of a single act on the line up - same as the last announcement! . Most years I recognise a reasonable number of names but not this year so have no idea where to start my listening! Any recommendations ? I don't generally enjoy reggae or DJ stuff and not a huge jazz fan, but will give anything a listen.

Well, it look like we're of the same tastes (on paper, at least!)Helen, so here's our list of everything which has made at least a "reserve" on the first go through: it may help as a starting point - or not! Asiq Nargile Aziza Brahmin Baaba Maal Blick Bassy Charles Bradley Cuncordu e Tenora de Orosei Desert Slide Dom La Nena Ethno-Trio Troitsa Grit Orchestra Hanoi Masters Hindi Zahra Les Amazones d' Afrique Mercedes Peon Moh! Kouyate N'Diale The East Pointers This is the Kit Xaos

Tough decisions then - like with Baaba Maal, do I see John Grant at Glastonbury or WOMAD?
I have one John Grant cd - Queen of Denmark and its brilliant and understandably regarded as Mojo's album of the year 2010
Excited at Roots Manuva. Saw him at Camp Bestival
Charles Bradley - hell, yeah.
Other acts sound interesting and anything with Oumou Sangare would be worth checking out

Well DM, Mrs SC has Pale Green Ghosts and I have Grey Tickles, Black Pressure and John Grant with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra: Live in Concert, so between the 3 of us we have a full set

Think I will invest in another, any suggestions of those you guys have? Thanks

Thanks standing stone! Going to add John Grant to the list as well as well. My daughter also recommends This Is The Kit. I am perfectly happy with so many unheard of artists to discover. I go to Purbeck to enjoy many of my favourite English folk bands and Womad to discover world music! The two complement each other well!

Might have to float that idea past Mrs Sindigo...

Thanks Haven't listened to Pale Green Ghosts in a while (but it must be good as it was the first one we bought), comparing Grey Tickles, Black Pressure and the BBC Phil Live one. Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, it's much more of a mixed bag, with some (not all) quiet rocky tracks, it took me about 3 or 4 listens before I loved it. The live BBC one - instantly loveable, much easier than GTBP, it's would probably be classed as "Easy Listening", but after a few plays I moved over to the harder GTBP. If I were to recommend one I'd say GTBP but stick with it, as I say I initially found it hard going and a bit disjointed, but now cannot see what my problem was When I say "disjointed" I mean it like when I listen to "Dark Side of The Moon" and it gets to Money my brain always says "What the hell is a pop song doing on an album like this?" My initial reaction to GTBP was why are the tracks ordered like this? it doesn't fit! But I was wrong........ bit like some harder Jazz I guess you need to let it settle in the brain a while before it comes together

May get the latest to familiarise myself with his set.
