You sure it's 6.30? Just looked and kick-off is 5.15, so half time will be from 6pm. They'll be back on the pitch playing the second half before 6.30... Unless perhaps the new companion is the referee

Nigenet, you may well be right; though this is the Beeb's published plan....... maybe a tardis on the pitch? source: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36104565content: The new Doctor Who companion will be revealed live on BBC One on Saturday night. The announcement will be made during half time of the FA Cup semi-final Match of the Day Live: Everton versus Manchester United at around 18:00 BST. The new companion will star alongside Peter Capaldi's Time Lord in the 10th new season of Doctor Who. They will replace Jenna Coleman, who played Clara Oswald, who left the show in 2015. Coleman joined Doctor Who in 2012, and starred alongside two Doctors, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi. She asked to be written out and left to take on the role of Queen Victoria in a major ITV drama series. Filming for the next series of Doctor Who will start this year but will air in 2017. In January, it was announced the head writer and executive producer of Doctor Who, Steven Moffat, was stepping down from the show. The next series will be his last, after which he will be replaced by Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall.

A five min dedicated prog would have been nice ............. footie .... not my favourite .... now I'll have to endure 30 mins of twaddle by the look of it!

Chris Twaddle hasn't played football in years! Half time is usually only 15 - 20 minutes I think, so shouldn't have to endure too twaddle. Which makes me wonder why the beeb are squandering "important punditry time" on announcing new companion in the middle of the footy? Perhaps they're hoping to get that audience interested in the programme?

Half time will be 45 minutes after kick-off (5.15), plus an stoppage time, so yes there is "injury time". Rarely more than a few minutes though Can't help thinking there will be a few Doctor Who fans watching the footie and thinking "They should've put Matt Smith era Doctor up front there..."

not sure doing a live tv link in a full football stadium is a good idea
some football fans can be a little bit rowdy so we hope they turn down the crowd mikes

In the realms of unlikely but would love to see, I'm nominating Maggie Smith (obvs) and Billy Connolly; he just loves travelling and has a lovely manner with everyone; this would suit him down to the ground ... just like Jambo in fact ...... could it be..........? :

I'm going forthe announcement to be made at approximately 6.12pm. Expect a couple of minutes injury time at conclusion of 1st half (there is always at least one minute unless its a European match when they don't bother with any), and then Messers Lineker and Shrearer etc will waffle on discussing the key highlights, even if there isn't any . The announcement will be made at 6.12pm followed by a couple more minutes of analysis leading up to the 2nd half kicking off.
Bit odd to do it during the football, I agree.
I can't remember them ever making a thing of the Doctor's companion before although no doubt I'm completely wrong about that.
Can I have Billie Piper back? Cheers
