Well I have 3 John Grant CD's but I haven't heard that one It's kind of Kraftwerk with some awesome Jazz ...... Love it, so not going with Kraftwerk or Jazz, but bits of it reminded my of my favourite German/Punk/Reggae/Yodelling singer Nina Hagen A special artist in my heart from when I was 21 and I went to Essen in Germany to visit my brother. It seemed the whole of Germany had gone Nina Hagen mad, she was played in clubs and everywhere, so whilst there I bought the album. This track is my favourite from the album. You could say it is one of the "Milestone" tracks of my life

SC it's from the ep that came with the queen of Denmark 2cd version. Also contains Fireflies - JG's finest... possibly...
Anyway, nice back-story as always SC - and Nina's-ahead-of-her-time message about the horror of FGM... so...here's a track by Herman Brood - discovered via my Dutch in-laws - Herman was a sometime romantic and musical partner of Nina Hagen. Never got to see him live - he was pretty extreme and jumped from the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton in 2001...

If Nik Kershaw releases a new album of past works and new works combined he could title it: From Mullet To Mohawk

Glad you like The Cat Empire Beef I wasn't expecting that as when I have mentioned them before on (previous) Womad forums the reaction has been "Polite to negative", which I have just put down to "They all know a shit load more about music than me, but heck I love 'em" Anyway, little story about The Cat Empire? well my sister-in-law lives in Melbourne and she and her family went to a little one day festival and a local band was playing, they were really impressive and they bought their cd and posted it off to Mrs SC and I thinking "We'd love 'em" and we did it was The Cat Empire and their debut CD. We loved them straight away and that became (with Manu Choa) our "Families Music" so that includes our two boys, they must have been about 6 or 7 then . Now we have dropped off listening to them so much or buying their CDs but it's amazing talking to our sister-in-law as you see a tear in her eye as how proud and amazed she is at how well her little local band have done

Lovely track Beef, heard Grandaddy before, but this time I was so surprised how Elbow they sounded. So my favourite Elbow Track is coming up Mrs SC, me and our two boys aged 12 and 9 are at the back of this gig having a bit of a Glastonbury Picnic n cider We all sang heartily to the "We still believe in love, so fuck you" Great days

Awesome SC - must have great to be there, singing along... I was singing along just now at Beef HQ. . .
Anyway, again, I couldn't find what I was looking for on youtube - the album version of this track - the title track from the Mutton Birds' "Envy of Angels", which also has echoes of Elbow (or really the other way round, chronologically) I First saw the Mutton Birds at Womad in the mid 90s and I loved them, and particularly remember the battle I had with a bladder full of beer during the gig - in the end I had to run to the nearest loo and back, desperate for a wee, but desperate not to miss the music. . . . but here's an acoustic solo version, with some nice daytime TV before and after, as a bonus. . . maybe not quite the Pyramid Stage... but there is clapping.

Just for you Beef, The Cat Empire at The Royal Albert Hall, June 2015. Weirdly it seems to have been filmed on my phone and has a shot of Mrs SC on it, "odd that Officer don't know how that happened" Anyway best if you use External speakers on your Laptop, mine can't handle the bass Fantastic night I gather Royal Albert Hall staff are still looking for their roof
