Womad 2016 - how was it for you?

I had a very different Womad experience this year. I can't say it was wonderful as my aching back and knees will testify but my 5 year old grandson had a whale of a time, and that's good enough for me. I'm not so sure that I will be doing the Nanni thing at a festival again in a hurry though Roll and Shambala at end of August when I can really have a good time.

I thought it was great. Like most people I preferred last years layout.

The music was excellent although as someone else mentioned maybe it's time to give the headliners a break from America next year, saying that I thought John Grant was very good.

I really liked the Italian pianist at the end in the Siam tent. Tried to buy his cd but it had sold out at the merchandise tent.

One thing I learnt this year and that's buy the cd's there rather than try and find them online. I thought I would save time and if I'm honest a little cash but everything I looked at online was much more expensive then buying it at the time. I will make sure I buy the stuff I like at the tent next year.

Seating - I really liked the new lay out, other than the Open Air being too far forward, sight lines needing to be broadened and more signage in the middle of the new streets (quite easy to find yourself far from where you thought you were, on the wrong street, or the wrong section of the street, and not within sight of a stage to navigate by). The acessibility of loos and waterpoints and Songlines signing tents to the stages worked a treat. The green loos by the Siam / Real Ale were a marvel! The seating at the bars was perfect for people sitting and enjoying a drink by a stage, they were always fully occupied; more would be better, though not sure where they would be best positioned... any ideas?

Tshirts - please could we have some more colourful tshirts - the Womad 2010 ones were fabulous - same or similar prints on different coloured t-shirts would be great; a joy to wear; especially if different fits available - longer length with shirt tail shaped hems, 3/4 length sleeve, ladyfit options etc.........

Park and Camp was great this year with the fencing along the main drag from Red Gate being intact and water points being well positioned and the loos where they were. Marshalling was spot on for arrivals - clear, efficient and friendly; excellent. Would like there to be signs on fencing reminding people of the condition which forbids amplified music as this is something which is flouted and really spoils/angers neighbouring and not so neighbouring people - there was no-one around to report this to on the Sunday afternoon/evening and it was full blast from car door speakers and really offensive stuff...

Whatever you decide to keep or change next year, thanks for all the thought, effort and blummin hard work which goes into making Womad what it is - keep doing what you're doing!

...is it too early to start packing for next year? :-)

Great memories Armsnlegs..yes happily off rockers!! Sorry you missed the rest of me..promise I was still attached to ankle tutus...and no it's not too soon to pack for Womad..ankle tutus, mad hair band and and coloured dreads all coseying up and ready to go again!!

Del has just ordered a cd of the italian pianist of amazon and he noticed that the one he bought at WOMAD was cheaper online!

Still waiting for Ngawang Lodup to release CD (hopefully without the awful electric guitar and drum kit).....


....just wondering whether anyone else is finding it to be the case that you're enjoying performances, but wondering whether you really need another CD of that music genre? *expects this isn't widespread!
