this thread is getting us in the mood and Del has just been ordering stuff on ebay for his night time display and extra bubble mix you won't be able to miss Del if you see kilt, tie dye, bubbles and sideburns you have found him and at night he tends to glow Cal also glows at night and bubbles too I read that wrong & was about to ask where on earth do you get glow-in-the-dark bubbles - I didn't even realise they were a thing! πππ I'm scribbling away making lists in my festival notebook - every time I see a cool idea I jot it down "glow-in-the-dark bubbles", Del has been trying to make this happen but it harder than you think

One question - do they restrict taking alcohol into the main arena? I'm not a big drinker as such (& less so when I'm on my own with the kids) but I know different festivals have different rules & restrictions, I just don't want to get caught out. Technically, you shouldn't take alcohol into the arena and technically, no glass on the site. But as Cal and Del said, as long as you don't make it obvious you will be fine, they won't search your bags (unless your being stupid, or drinking out of a glass bottle,in front of security). So if you are taking bottles, I'd suggest you take plastic cups to drink out of. The only time I've seen people being searched and drink confiscated is when it's obviously drunk teenagers. As for drugs, Womad is very clean, you obviously will smell a bit of hash from time to time, but it's not anything like as big as other festivals, some say it's about as risky as Legoland As for Security, something we have noticed, but I have not heard anyone else talking about it, is that Security and the Police make their presence known on Thursday. They seem to be everywhere, and talking to lots of people, they walk the site, you kind of think "Blimey, whats going on?" But then after Thursday, it's minimal, I guess they are just letting everyone know that they are there. don't forget about Nigenet's ham sandwiches that got the sniffer dogs all excited!

Another question (or three) Wagons? Do families use these at Womad - in the main arena I mean- I don't need one to cart my kids around in but they are useful for towing "stuff" (I hate carrying stuff) Secondly, chairs, laysacs, picnic blankets, wagons etc - do groups/families set up 'camp' in the main arena - somewhere for everyone to congregate, chill, drink, eat, listen to music from afar? Thirdly - if they do, is it ever ok to leave your chairs/wagons blankets etc unattended at all or will it all be removed by security (or stolen π±)? Fourthly π - security, (theft), imagining you've followed all the usual festival guidelines (do's & don'ts) , how safe do you feel the campsite (& your belongings) are both left unattended & while you sleep? people do use wagons in the arena and some decorate them, including fairly lights (we always like to compliment those who make this special effort) yes families do set up little camp site in the arena and enjoy the acts from afar best not to leave your wagons etc unattended as they could be removed by stewards for safety reason. Always best to keep your valuable on your person. we tend to some valuables in our car (Del also keeps his clean clothes in our car so that way his tie dye is always dry and fresh) Our first WOMAD was at the old Reading site and there was a major problem that year with people raiding tents. Since moving to Charlton Park security is a lot better (there are security patrols in the campsite, some people don't like this but we have never had a problem with them and they seem to like being bubbled too There is a police presence but they are normally very relaxed and we have even spotted them smiling, Del did have a run in with one officer when he tried following officer around the area waving his blue flashing gloves at night . Luckily he avoided a strip search and the officer saw the funny side. We also find getting to know the people in the tents around you helps too as you. Occasionally there are a few flash points in the campsite (people having one to meany and being a bit to noisy at night etc) but these are dealt with very quickly and the tutting can be heard in Bristol one thing we would add is when it's time to pack up WOMADers are usually very good and tidying up after themselves, there are some who just leave the Β£10 tents and rubbish behind but the vast majority leave only the sound of the laughter echoing through the trees

How amazing would that be!
(Am actually gutted that they are not a thing)
I've given up with bubbles -every time my kids seem to spill the lot within 2 minutes of me getting them out & show little interest or enthusiasm - I gave the last lot away to the little kids "next door"

To me, that's what EVERY festival should be like - it's really not hard to make sure you pack up and take everything with you - I for one, can't actually afford to leave my kit behind!
it saddens and angers me so much every year to see the carnage that is left behind at Glastonbury the original "leave no trace" - "green festival" - NONE of the events we've camped at are left like this & regardless anyway of what others do, I make sure that everything I bring to site gets removed so you would never even know we'd been there!! If my kids see me leaving a pile of stuff behind, then they'll think it's ok & do the same in the future!

Glow in the dark bubbles can be done. Some require black light, others don't. Only possible problem is both may stain clothes if not careful...
