I would recommend a shower in your tent too, most useful in the heat.

Dorset Helen, that sounds like a 5 star camping experience. Well done with the ditch sleeping, I'm sure the frogs enjoyed your company. π

Advice please....we having been using a bog standard air bed to sleep on while camping but it's incredibly uncomfortable and makes my hip problems a whole lot worse - took me a couple of weeks to recover from sleeping on it at Purbeck. We are camping at 3 festivals this year including WOMAD and feel that if we are to last the summer we will need to invest in something a lot more comfortable (but hopefully not astronomically expensive) . It doesn't have to be too lightweight as we are camping by our car at all three sites. Any suggestions? Cheers!

we have some folding camp beds we got from Aldi, they are okay but very firm and narrow, a self inflating matter does help
the other option we use is a pile of self inflating bed rolls and some normal bed rolls, again it a firm option and then can move part in the night but they comfy

It packs down small enough to easily attach to a rucksack and weighs about 1.5kg. A bit heavier than specified in the description on Amazon but still light enough to not really be a concern. It is quite close to the ground once the weight of a person is on it but there is a bit of room underneath to store a few bits and pieces. The feet are handy for attaching rucksacks containing the precious things to with carabiners as well. Sounds good - which bed have you got Beanstew? Thanks.

Sounds good - which bed have you got Beanstew? Thanks. It's this one. I'm still pleased with it after 3 festivals use. It takes a minute or two to settle and creaks a bit when you first get on it but seems stable after that.

Thanks Beanstew - the 3 trains, the bus Chippenham seem to get harder every year... maybe a bit easier with this...

My advice to anyone using air mattresses with more than one person on it, don't. Better to use two twins than one queen. Unless the Queen size has separated air chambers for each side, it will be impossible to make it comfortable for both people. Better to use two twin size, even if you make it up as a single bed. That way you can make your side as firm or soft as you need.

Very pleased with my second hand Coleman Exponent Phact 3 which arrived yesterday and was put up and down and packed by my own fair hand. There was also a bit of spot cleaning and disinfecting due to pigeon excitement. Camp bed win for me; hi-gear ones from Go Outdoors are heavier and less sexily designed than Beanstew's lovely funky one, but cost a lot less.

Looking to replace our tent possibly in the next year; liking the look of the Coleman Cortes Tent Big Top Octagonal Orange and wonder whether anyone has any experience of it. Also liking Cal N Del's with the porch area which would mean we could leave the gazebo at home. Looking for a large robust camping chair carry case - Gelert FUR096 bag with no success so far. Does anyone have a spare at all? Has anyone tried using one of those big scoop the air beds to sleep on? Saw a few in the arena; haven't had a go in one - have you? What's your favourite campsite meal - one you make at your tent? Porridge with golden syrup and bananas worked very well for brekkies for us this year. At the end of each night, we attach our glowsticks to the loop at the top of the bedroom and find that the residual light is just enough to let you see what you need to during night without disturbing the other's sleep. "Big scoop the air beds" - or laysacs would be no good to sleep on as they gradually deflate - we have them for lounging on.

Hi fourgomad, and a warm welcome to the forum - have we met before? I have a feeling we may have done. Cool avatar. Thanks for the laysacks advice - much the same as the airbed/s we used to have. Will stick with camp bed Hi Standingstone Thanks for the warm welcome, I don't think we have met... (I doubt it..LOL) I've found this forum because I've been looking for a specific WOMAD forum as I will be attending for the first time this year & am looking for a place to get hints & tips from. I've camped at other (much smaller) festivals before, but am always looking for new camping hacks! I'm hoping other seasoned WOMADers could share the best places to camp, best time to arrive, best things to do. I'll be "sort of" on my own with 2 young teens & am wondering how much freedom they will have too? Say "sort of" on my own - I'm meeting friends there - also going for the first time, a selection of young families & single parents. Yes - if you have the luxury of campbeds I'd stick to those as they stop the cold air seeping up - but a "laysac" is great for lounging on during the day. I'm not sure what WOMAD is like in terms of people setting up a small "meeting camps" i.e. Chairs, blankets etc in the main arena areas - we like to have somewhere the kids know where to find us or at least where to wait for us & somewhere out of the way to chill out & listen to the music in the evening. Oooh I have SO many questions.... The only thing I will say is that I'm struggling to navigate this forum - I don't have a laptop & ive never used a forum app before
