Not just the tabloids, was doing a search on Sadiq Kahn on the internet. Throws up loads of US news sites, spouting hatred of SK and muslims generally. Sickening to read and understand how the anti Muslim rhetoric is being exploited by Trump.

Yes, the USA has turned largely into the land of misinformation. It's hard to stay in a hotel or go to a corporate restaurant, with bar, without being subjected to Fake... er... FOX news.
The man who shot the Republicans recently was a Libertarian not a liberal or Democrat for that matter. He would have done the same thing if Democrats were on the field and Hillary had been inaugurated President. However, the press seems to prefer a 'leftist terrorist' to the truth. OK, and he was just a plain psychopath. Libertarians tend towards the lunatic fringe, anarchy, who serve the conservatives, who feed and benefit from fear, far better than most liberals. At least by definition.
In the meantime, look forward to WOMAD, as music is healing.

A Womad highlight over all the years were the Manganiyar Seduction. 43 musicians from the same area in India. In an interview, one of the performers said that it was almost inevitable that every international airport treated them with suspicion and they faced long delays, interviews and searches when travelling.
Yet they were content to undergo all that because they could travel and share their wonderful music and performance throughout the world.
Zenrider, you are right, music is healing and we are so grateful for the performers willing to come and share it's healing properties with us.

What's really sad, is finding out some of the people I thought I knew, I don't really know at all. It's a terrible feeling ZR isn't it.... for me those people are unfortunately my family. Their attitudes towards the rest of humankind make it difficult to know how to carry on talking with them - stick to safe topics like the weather or holidays I guess. But then there's climate change denial lurking... it's a whole mindset - what can we do? |

Wonder why, after unable to get a visa a year or so ago, Womad has not been able to bring him over in the years since. Is that a reflection of stricter uk border controls compared to Chile, New Zealand And Australia where he has played the Womad festivals since having to cancel the UK visit.

Got this in an email from WOMAD
"The stages are up, the artists are on their way and everything is in place to make the 35th WOMAD the best WOMAD.
We want you to enjoy WOMAD as much as ever and so you can feel relaxed and happy, we want to reassure you that we have taken additional measures to enhance the security of the festival for your safety.
WOMAD have been working intensively with Wiltshire Police to design some new procedures, most of these you will not be aware of. What you may see is more police on site and the inevitable enhanced searching of bags and luggage on entry. This might create slightly longer queues at the wristband exchanges but hopefully not!
Our only other request is that if you see anything unusual or that causes you concern, do not hesitate to inform a steward or member of security and we will respond as swiftly as possible.
