I'm going but haven't really looked at the line up - I just like the surprise when I get there (20th anniversary this year for me!) although am looking forward to Youssou!

Wish I could join you both for WOMAD, perhaps one of these years. As it is, I owe that friend of mine who now lives in the Shetlands a visit first, whether I can afford it or not. Should I make that happen, this year or next, I'm hoping to be able to run by this place www.dunnottarcastle.co.uk/ again, as it's near Aberdeen. Been there twice (many, many years ago), but like Raglan Castle it's a place worth revisiting. The last time I was there was in 1990 with a friend. We thought we'd been locked in for the night and were trying to figure the best place to try to climb out. Yeah, we were young and dumb... Anyway, as we were deciding our best way out we heard a bell. Followed the sound and found a man with a couple following him. Apparently, that's how they round up the stragglers that haven't left yet. On the other hand, if the gate/door hadn't been locked.... we'd had left already and not had to go searching for someone to let us out, or another way out. Anyway, it's a pretty cool place if you've never been there. Just know if you haven't tried to leave and hear a bell.... but I digress. Am really looking forward to hearing about WOMAD and being jealous that you are there and I am not. However, it is the same weekend as Catfish Days...Yeah OK, still jealous you'll be at WOMAD. Though I must say, Rojo has put on a pretty nice little Blues Fest that Sunday at his Rustic the last couple of years, so that will suffice.

Oops, got a week ahead of myself. Been kind of a crazy month. Will be listening to the blues instead this Sunday, since my car has trouble crossing large bodies of water.

OMG, it couldn't have been better!
WOMAD was great. I met wonderful people at the Stewarding camp site and while on duty, but also had lovely conversations with public when off duty. The weather was hot and sunny, the crowds relax and enjoying. Absolutely a must do. Yet the cherry on top of the icing is... That I met The Man himself!!!!
While on site I found out online that PG would talk at Saturday morning at the Society of Sound stage, which happened to be when I was off duty. The Society of Sound Stage (SoS) was a spheric tent, not too big, in the middle of the Arena site, so to get backstage you had to go via the public area. Of course I had to make sure to be in the front of the stage, so I went to the SoS at 10 am and waited for it to open. I brought a friend co-steward who was in for this. There were to other fans with us. We settled ourselves in front of the stage for the first act, an audio movie which was very nice. Afterwards we were being asked to stand up and in doing so we also moved forward. I was exactly in the middle, front stage, only with one camera man in front of me. Couldn't be better!
So Peter was introduced and the interview took place right in front of me, him being maybe 4 meters away from me. They spoke about 30 years of Womad, 25 years of Real World, technical innovations and the future. The audience was allowed to ask questions on the topic. So I quickly made up a question. When they spoke about Real World Studio I got the mic and asked what Peter thought about the future of sound studio's since already we have complete studio's in our laptops with hi quality plugins and brilliant sounds. His answer was that it is indeed very difficult for studio's to survive, yet the USP would be that you have the top of the bill equipment and the space to create the music together with the whole band. Which you could never do in your bedroom. I gave a short reply and was a very happy girl: I was in conversation with PG!
But it got better: Afterwards I went to the backend of the tent (alone, my co-steward went off - which he regretted later on...). There were about 10 fans waiting near the exit in conversation with the security. I stood back a little and watched. They were told that Peter wasn't doing any signing stuff and they shouldn't wait for him. Eventually even a hard core fan left ("It's not going to happen" he said to a friend.) There was a couple still talking at the gate and writing things down on a paper. Just as they went off, they were called back and were allowed in. It was possible to see a bit through the fench, and I saw Peter coming up to them and have a chat. The couple came out and meanwhile I had settled myself in the grass at some distance keeping an eye on the exit. I knew PG was still there.
I was thinking about what I should say and prepared myself with getting one of my poetry cards ready (I write some poetry and have some cards with me) It occurred to me that the poem on the card was actually sort of written for PG: what would you say, not being the general I love your music-thing. Daydreaming about that some time last year I wrote this poem and I had it with me!!!
After about ten minutes there was nobody at the exit and Peter came out with another man. I stood up and approached him carefully, though knowing that he would recognize me from the interview just before. My opening line being "Can I give you a poem?" which kind of amazed him and he said "Sure". I said that funny enough it was actually written for this exact occasion. He took the time to read it and then we had a chat about poetry, Amsterdam (where I am from) and SSL Live. Even made him laugh with a technical joke on the SSL :-) Finally I asked if it would be okay to make a picture and then we said goodbye and they went off into the festival and me into another direction going totally crazy on what had just happened a soon as I got out of site :-)
He was very kind, really listening and relaxed. What a nice bloke! Even more in love now... ;-)
So yeah, Womad was pretty good for me...
(I would insert The picture if I would now how. I don't have it online (public) and I can only enter a link...)
