Chifchaff nest is verticaal - I'm sure I've seen these and not realised what they were. Beautiful chiks - one stepped out and back in again.
Chiff chaffs winter in Cornwall - I didn't know this! Brett had 5 chiffchaffs overwintering in the Midlands - they do well on sewage farm warmth gosh! The overwintering ones get the best territories and climate change is a factor in this - resident numbers are rising.. not travelling so far..

Chiffchaff chick got a lot more adventurous and was fed outside the nest. They will fledge today - looks certain..
Discussing whether semi fledging is a thing.... branching... adjacent...other such terms.

oooo - that's a thing - Bret wonders what swallows look like in ultra violet. There has just been a bit of odd behaviour - the sitting swallow chasing the other away from the nest - what's that about?

Do swallows re-use nests - no. The nests dessicate and fall apart over winter. They may reconstruct on same site.
Clean out any nests / boxes you have put up for house martins, swallows, swifts...

Parent housekeeping the nest and change over takes place, the other parent settling on the nest.
