Instead of the full steam fair, it will be teacups, dodgems, big wheel and wave merry go round dotted about the site. Does not look like they are the carters steam fair rides either. Possibly Womad sourcing their own rides rather than using carters to provide the same rides each year. The rides are listed somewhere on the app.

Carters were on radio 2 the other morning off to "car fest north" for the weekend... so I doubt we'll have any of that unmistakeable steamy odour. I will miss the steam gallopers but not the noise.

Come back expecting Webby to be the global web phenomenon of the summer. After all, it does show the men's urinals very clearly, as I was thinking must be the case when I was stood and contemplating whilst using them one day.

Come back expecting Webby to be the global web phenomenon of the summer. After all, it does show the men's urinals very clearly, as I was thinking must be the case when I was stood and contemplating whilst using them one day. Unless someone has a giant sized TV or monitor, nothing to be seen. My attachments are full sized downloads, no worries. Can't even make out people's faces let alone anything else. I'm wondering if they had problems at the men's urinals last year? Perhaps that's why the not so discrete location?

Men's urinals were chaotic this year, just placed next to the portaloos but not screened off at the start. Felt awkward to use one on the Thursdays, bit exposed and was I doing the right thing not waiting for them to be screened. There were even urinals right next to one of the festival exit points! By Friday, no shortage of men taking the plunge (proverbially) and using the urinals. Zen rider, you may think we were filmed but too obscured to see on the webcam, imagine what it must have looked like at Womad just walking past and seeing up to a dozen men at a time using them. Over the weekend a decision to screen them off must have been taken, but took a long time to complete, for at least a day just the set you saw by the webcam were screened off (why these ones I do not know because the were some of the less visible ones). Then by Sunday a few more were getting screened off but there were still some still in the open through Sunday night.

...I actually saw them take screens OFF the urinals at the fairground...I think the problem is getting the balance right between discretion and folks not seeing that they are there. Personally, I would rather see folks taking a wazz than have to queue un-necessarily. I think having them out in the open did reduce queues. And as a lady of a certian age I found that was a very good thing ;-)

I used them lots. I did seem a bit exposed at first but prejudices and conventions go by the wayside at WOMAD. Yes it reduced queues. Just sorry more women didn't use them !!!!!

They do reduce the queues for the portaloos a great deal which must be good. Whether they are screened or not makes no difference to many people but got to say that it probably would be better to have them screened off. How many men may have opted against using them because they felt self conscious performing a natural function in the corner of a crowded field?

Looks like the Men's Urinals deserve a thread of their own! I used them a few times - they serve a good purpose in reducing the length of the queue for the toilets. BUT I would have appreciated some hand sanitizers next to the urinals - I wasn't happy about having a wee then going off to buy food and drink with unwashed hands
