It wasn't supposed to happen.
Bloohair has been renting a nice town centre office in Ipswich for a reasonable price. No rip-off landlords trying to squeeze every drop out of a small business. No, Bloohair rents the big office downstairs from the Labour party upstairs. The office that usually houses a Labour MP when we get one.
Moved in 18 months ago thinking I had 4 and a half years to settle in until a possible need to move out. That was the deal - rent the office until the 2020 general election.
But Theresa May called a snap general election!
Panic! Do I need to move out? No, no they said, we're not going to win silly! You're just going to get a few more years in the office! Ben Gummer has got a good majority and Jeremy Corbin doesn't look like winning many votes back to Labour. Time passed and JC was looking pretty good, much more human than characterless TM, and was saying some really great things with actual conviction.
Election day comes and it looks tight, I reckoned a recount but Bummer winning the Ipswich constituency with a smaller majority. The exit polls were good, but Ipswich was way off target. Went to bed.
4am - rudely awaken by husband bouncing around the house like Tigger telling me Labour has won Ipswich by 830, we now had our first openly gay MP, Sandy Martin and I needed to get out of the office quick!
Two weeks later, everything is packed in boxes and a deal done with Unite to rent a room at the top of their building. Might have to move some stuff back home, but it has been a shock surprise and upheaval all of a sudden, but I'm happy to be back on the Forum. Just to let you all know what I'm looking forward to seeing you and having a bit of a holiday. It's been a heavy few months with local county council elections, moving the contents of the house around to redecorate a very tired grubby front room between two elections and now moving the office again 3 years ahead of schedule.
Sandy Martin MP can have his office back.
See you soon!
