Just watched week 10 - how did I only just see it? Wonderful and fascinating as ever SC! Despite the fake name, and the English singing, the music does sound typically Italian and reminded me of the Banda Della Posts who played the lunchtime slot on the main stage at Womad a few years ago -

Just watched week 10 - how did I only just see it? Wonderful and fascinating as ever SC! Despite the fake name, and the English singing, the music does sound typically Italian and reminded me of the Banda Della Posts who played the lunchtime slot on the main stage at Womad a few years ago - Cheers Beef, thanks for sharing, there is an incredible similarity there amazing that my Grandparents were dancing around to Italian and possibly other nations musical styles. I guess though the UK has always been a mixing pot of cultures and "borrowed" and made our own the best bits of each Plus my Grandfather and "Uncle Fred" (I really must find out who Uncle Fred really was) were in the Navy together, travelled the world together, Uncle Fred spent many weekends resting in local jails around the world, (oddly never my Grandfather, well only once being jailed and that was in Ireland, I need to check out whether it was only once for him too, seems odd, one rogue, one saint, going around together, maybe "what goes on tour, stays on tour" rules applied) and even once in a Siberian Hard Labour Camp and got mixed up in the Russian Revolution. But he's bound to pick up an ear for differing cultures music by travelling the bars of the world, with his best mate The more I talk about "Uncle Fred" the more obvious it becomes he was not a family member but a family friend. Shame, he sounds like an awesome geezer to have had in the family. Glad your enjoying it Beef,

Catching up on some of the older Gramophone pieces. Thought the village band accompanying Senor Scala sounded a bit like the famous 40 whooping Llamas brought in at short notice to finish the credits for the holy grail (here’s hoping the link works)

Great stuff this week, I can remember listening to Billy Cotton's Band Show with my parents. 'Wakey, Wakeeeeeeeeeeeeey'. Thanks for the YouTube mention, my good pal Millie Tant picked that up
