Great episode SC - wasn't expecting any ironing, but it's the only way to do it - to music. Where/how did you get your T-shirt design? Interesting and entertaining - fancy losing your yo-yo - I wonder what that was a euphemism for back in the 30s? Fascinating to think how the gramophone was part of the musical evolution that we're still experiencing today - but can you imagine your grandkids reminiscing about CDs and mp3s? Wonderful that your gramophone player and records are still there, and yet experienced by us via the internet...
And before the records (where they called records then?) printed sheet music was the way that music was sold and enjoyed - at home, or in pubs and theatres. My great-great grandmother was a pianist... I know little more of her except that she lived and played in London and that she passed that musical gene to my grandfather (pictured in an earlier post during WW2) and to myself, I think. Apparently my grandfather used to play piano in drag... must have been quite unusual in the 30s and 40s... wish I had a photo! I have been known to do something similar... my genes are full of music and ridiculousness...
Anyway, here's a picture of my great-great grandmother - must have been taken in the late 1800s.

Thanks Beef, I came across the image ages ago when there was some chatter on this, or possibly the previous forum, on what flag we would use to represent "Earth". I googled it to do a bit of research and came across the design. I liked the design and I totally agreed with the thoughts behind the flag, what it officially represents plus what that represents to me, personally. I then started using it as my icon on this site. So the official line: PURPOSE OF THE FLAG 1. To be used while representing planet Earth. 2. To remind the people of Earth that we share this planet, no matter of national boundaries. That we should take care of each other and the planet we live on. SYMBOLIC EXPLANATION Centered in the flag, seven rings form a flower – a symbol of the life on Earth. The rings are linked to each other, which represents how everything on our planet, directly or indirectly, are linked. The blue field represents water which is essential for life – also as the oceans cover most of our planet's surface. The flower's outer rings form a circle which could be seen as a symbol of Earth as a planet and the blue surface could represent the universe. MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS I like all of that but personally, I like to also try to think of it as a philosophy or way of life that should be strived for. NATURE - The 7 circles interconnected representing the differing forms of life and they are all interdependent with each other, representing the delicate balance of nature, if man effects one part, and so a chain reaction commences and the dominoes start to fall, without care the whole "Flower of Life" will be harmed. Respect and Protect Nature. GEOGRAPHICAL - The 7 circles interconnected represent the 7 continents of Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Antarctica, we allow one to be harmed and that again will cause chain reactions to all, harming all. Respect and Protect the land that we live and don't live on. SEAS OCEANS and RIVERS - These are the givers of life. Respect and Protect all water. PEOPLES - All peoples are interconnected, no people are less or more important than others. Respect and Protect all Peoples RELIGiON and POLITICS - All believe systems whether they be religious or political should be respected, all people should be entitled to their own believes and politics without fear of persecution, hostility or hatred. Although systems that run contrary to this and the stances above should be strongly opposed. NATIONAL BORDERS - Really? That's all made up stuff, do birds see borders? Why can't I walk over a mountain or cross a river just because someone says "That's another country" All borders are fake and in reality it is all a rather new concept. I think passports only started being used in the UK in 1914, up until then people of the world went wherever they wanted. So the design, since finding it means a lot to me. Here's a site presenting the flag www.flagofplanetearth.com/#intro-shift I got the shirt printed by an on-line t Shirt printers - Just google "Earth Flag T Shirt"

YES although it might use up ZR's photo "allowance" quicker, but I guess we could delete then after a month or so if it becomes a problem I like the idea

We could post links from a Flickr account (or similar)? Would also get around the 1mb per picture limit.

Great stuff, better get the old photos back from Mum. It's a great idea PD... but can become a big job.... my parents always had a couple of boxes of photos in the loft... every few years they'd come down and we'd go through them. I always liked these occasional explorations of the past... me as a baby, my parents' wedding in 1959, Christmas at my grandparents, my grandparents' wedding in the 1920s... then they'd go back in the box and up in the loft again. 40 years later, my mum is gone and my Dad is in the process of setting up a new home with his 2nd Mrs, who had a tendency to throw things out, with no regard... I rescued our family cats (brother and sister, already dispatched to an animal charity) and the boxes of photos. My Dad had suggested dividing them up between me and my brothers... but I knew this would be the end of them, as a collection... they'd get lost, damaged and forgotten. So I started scanning them, improving the contrast, rebalancing colours, removing scratches etc. The boxes weren't that large but suddenly seemed to have become bottomless. Then I thought, well it would also be nice to have them as a slide show on DVD... and I thought "this needs some music"... took about 3 years in total... crazy, but I'm glad I did it. And the cats stayed with us for 8 years, until they both went at 19 in 2009.
