Big decisions here...now we have both taken early retirement, it's WOMAD or a week in France and we may have to do it alternate years.....so 2018 may be a WOMAD free year for us. Still agonising. Plus one daughter is getting married in 2018 and the other two are expecting summer babies so it's going to be a hectic and expensive year! I am sure you will do the right thing, maybe do alternate years or perhaps work at WOMAD being a steward or something, I think you only work 8 hours per 24 payment is free tickets I believe. It could be worth a go There are some volunteering opportunities which are better than others but guess you need to be in th3 know or make lots of enquiries. There are some limited volunteering, such as painting in the bars which need to be completed before Womad opens and then free to enjoy. As I said, do not know how you find out about these opportunities but without any work commitments must be worth making enquiries.

You have to have dedication to use the spa: say £100, thats about £25 a day, say 2 showers/day (take a friend maybe the second time) and use the toilet 3 x /day = £5 a go. Any less and the cost shoots up.
Helen You can't take it with you and you are only spending their inheritance anyway. Forget France, the welcome wont be as warm as Womad esp. if we have annoyed them over the BR***it business.
Buy the happy couple a weekend ticket- (with Spa as they are getting married) and knit two shaws made from Dorset Down wool for the forthcoming deliveries, send them pics of you both in funny hats in the Siam. Job Done!

Sorry to harp on about this but I'm still cross so I'm having a rant again here. I've messaged Womad via Facebook about the surprise initial installment deposit and reduced number of payments. An adult ticket and 'Premium' Park and Camp is now £67.50 per installment, compared to around £42 last year. Yes, they've reduced the number of payments and the next payment isn't due until April, and yes prices would have increased anyway, and admittedly kids under 13 still go free, but my argument is that Womad could have explained the new system so that folks were prepared to pay the instant deposit and more over less time. Not everyone has a regular income, let alone savings to dip into to buy festival tickets. I'm kind of ok at the moment for dosh, but my daughter has had to rob her housing benefit to pay the deposit. Yes, she has two jobs and her hubby works, but they still have to claim benefits as their income is low. I also know a few folks who were depending on the old payment system, two of whom can't go now as they just don't have the money for the instant deposit payment. Very sad that two of my best buddies won't be there this year and my daughter has been put in this unfortunate position without warning.

Thanks everyone for your support. The other issue we have with WOMAD is that with a worsening arthritic hip, it's a struggle for me. I was worried about slipping in the mud and damaging it more on the Sunday last year and spent almost the whole day on TTW where I was safe. Steve has a dodgy knee too! Pair of wrecks! It was a long walk back to meadow park & camp too and we needed the spa tickets simply as somewhere to go back to. where we could sit down when the hip/knee got too painful. WOMAD is very short on sitting spaces if it's too wet to sit on the ground! I don't think I would want to go as a volunteer...we already volunteer on the media teams for three festivals, Purbeck Valley FF , Wimborne Minster FF & Bridport FF and they are hard work but we dont have set shifts and can pretty much decide where we want to go and how much/what we want to do and when the hip/knee get too bad we can go home! You don't have that freedom as a WOMAD steward and there are times when my hip suddenly gets so bad I can barely walk or stand. Its nice to come to WOMAD and enjoy it rather than work! So I think we will do alternate years. plus we just fancy a holiday in France next year!

Womad is not meant to be an endurance event, your right, if the concerns and obstacles are greater than the fun then there's no point at all

So I think we will do alternate years. plus we just fancy a holiday in France next year! Who can argue with that, doing some significant damage this year at Womad to my tendon in my calf after tripping on one of those large left over stones in the arena, it took 8 weeks to heal and needed lots of Naproxen. I then did my knee kneeling whilst replacing my shed roof, so no exercise since Womad! Fortunately I have not had to do any festival H&S this year as both were cancelled and I made no play to do Boomtown because no quarter is given for experience; we have to keep up with the youngest. I find that the body becomes slower to recuperate with age, gone are the days of being a roadie, going to an evening gig at The Ruskin Arms in East London returning at 5am to do a days work in Dorset. We used to call them 'Doing a double header' after the need for extra power and 2 engines on some Somerset & Dorset railway routes. Dont ignore the lightweight quality fold up chairs, buy them now, try in France, bring in 2019! I have a fishermans chair which was useful and when Rachel needed urgent R&R we made a few friends in the back of the Tiny Tea Tent, sat in the dry.

No support for my predicament then? I thought some of you might understand how I feel but maybe I was wrong? Womad have responded but also with a lack of understanding of how the new payment arrangements don't suit everyone. Oh well, move along, nothing to see here.

Sorry PD....I should have responded at the time. Yes, I thought it was wrong that the new ticketing arrangements were not explained in advance. Womad should have (and could have) done that. It did come as a shock that you had to make an initial payment straight away. I really preferred the old arrangement.
