They used to give an NHS discount that could only be found on NHS websites but it stopped a few years ago. I thought it discriminated against all the other public servants who are low paid and not in the NHS.

Actually a Loyalty scheme would work well, you could have a cumulative rising discount for each subsequent year. I suppose the problem may be that WOMAD has a large % of return custom, so a large % would be entitled to a discount and so ticket prices may increase to pay for it Such a problem to be had.People that come back year, after, year, after year.

As it is, WOMAD may not be in my near future, because of how we pick vacations at work, but am thinking the Shetland Folk festival could happen eventually, and perhaps Celtic Connections. Next year not being realistic, but as long as the world leaders don't throw us into WWIII in the near future, perhaps 2019 and 2020, probably starting with the Shetland Folk Festival, as I worry of my friends health there. Next year, not the best for such trips, though if somehow a trip to the Shetlands can happen, it will.

The cheaper tickets for the locals, that would simply be an agreement with the local authority to ease licensing approval, to show that WOMAD is benefitting the local community. Maybe they should also offer discounts for us Womad veterans who have been loyal for years and for those on certain benefits to ease the pain of the new payment plan? Hahaha. Yes, most of us would qualify for a loyalty discount. I don't check all threads regularly but I sympathize with your predicament. The jump up in installments seems bit excessive. I think a fiver would be sufficient

Celtic Connections has a kind of discount system but you need to see around 6 or 7 gigs before you start to save any money.
Ed fringe has a great system which lets us have 241 on a lot of shows and we save loads every year, mind you most shows also do 241 on the day and they are not always the best shows at the fringe

At least Womad don't release a limited number of early bird tickets like some festivals. I attempted to bag a Shambala early bird a couple of weeks ago, managed to get one in the basket but by the time I'd filled in all my details they'd sold out so I ended up having to pay £40 more! Oh well, at least that one's paid for but it reminds me of the Glastonbury fiasco where folks with faster broadband and nifty typing fingers bag the tickets.

I would have thought you have hated Glastonbury! Back in the day it was my favourite place, but sadly no longer, far too big and much too corporate for my liking. I blame my bad back and knees on the trolley I used to haul often through mud from Pennard Hill to the National Express coach pick-up right across the other side of the very large festival site. Oh to be young and pain free again

Oh to be young and pain free again Totally agree with that, the first time I went was pretty elderly being in my early 40's, it was the year the big "Wall" was built. We went probably 6 times as a family and by the end of it I was totally sick of it. Never will I darken it's doorstep again

Never had any inclination to do Glastonbury, just sounds too big to be enjoyable. Nieces have been and enjoyed, but even though so much is on offer they said it takes so long to get between stages that you would still not see who you want or have time to chill. Prefer the likes of Womad, ok only 6 stages but close enough to get between acts quickly AND able to get a reasonable view of the stage (even right at the front) without having to stand in the same stop with legs crossed all day.

The only time I went to Glasto in the mid 80s you drove in with your vehicle, there were 12 of us in a coach 6 up top and 6 in a hidden compartment, it was all rather relaxed. We sold beer from a stall and 'magic dots' which were spots of luminous paint for 10pence. We sold so many we had to get another pot of paint from a shop in the town.
As I write some of the guidance they have adhere to, it was hinted I might like to work there a few years ago. Not a chance!

My kids and their friends used to jump the fence. One year a chap with a funny beard caught my daughter and her friend squeezing through some bushes up near Worthy Farm. He then proceeded to lecture them on the dangers of drugs, but kindly pointed them in the direction of a butty van and told them to have a good and safe festival. It wasn't until later when she got home that daughter realised the chap with the funny beard was Michael Eavis!

Cal went to Glasto when she was a teenager but stopped going as she didn't feel safe walking past group of drug dealers in between the stages
