My German buddy MO and his missus Paulina told me they had some holiday dates left for this year so I recommend WOMAD Gran Canaria so they have booked flight and accommodation I just hope they have a good time as its their first world music event ever and I just hope they have a good time. Only one act listed so far are Orkesta Mendoza so maybe at last the full act list will be announced tomorrow, there seems to be a lot of films on show.

Bombino (Niger) Beating Heart (UK) Hindi Zahra (Morocco) Horace Andy (Jamaica) La Dame Blanche (Cuba) Miroca Paris (Cape Verde) Orkesta Mendoza (USA) PLUS I expect a lot of local or Spanish acts if WOMAD Fuertaventura is anything to go by.
EDIT..... Full lineup announced overnight and I cant say I'm blown away as its mostly chill acts. Had better lineups at Africa Oye ......BUT!!! Sunshine and Rum and Party has to be good.

Hmm, chill wouldn't suit this technoslapper/funkyworld fan. Kinda pleased I'm not going now......but rum would be nice.

Iโll be there with Mrs and Clive and Pat and weโre having a good ol reunion at Bar DaVinci. Bring a ukulele or a harmonica or something musical.

I,ll be there as i have already booked flights ( first flights booked with Monarch - refunded already ) ! Not a brilliant line up but Horace Andy , Bombino and Orkestra Mendoza are all worth seeing and have just listened to Homeland by Hindi Zahra which is a great cd . It will be my third Gran Canaria Womad and its a great location but it is sad to miss out on the lovely beach location for Womad on Fuerteventura

Had a great time in Gran Canaria which included a few days near Puerto Mogan and some walking in the mountains. Having been to Womad in Las Palmas 8 years ago which had Vieux Farka Toure, Roy Ayers, Tinariwen and introduced me to Imelda May, the 2017 event was a bit underwhelming being only two days. Hindi Zarah, great, and Orchestra Mendoza and Horace Andy good but there seemed to be budget acts on electronic gadgets too. As itโs a free fest, the iCanary Islanders come from all around to meet up with buddies, smoke weed and high five all and sundry so the music tended to become a bit sidelined. Gotta say that the Caceres event in May in Extramadura, Spain, has a similar party buzz but with lots of minor acts on lesser stages in the streets to give that element of surprise at stumbling on some band with hurdy gurdy etc. Not to mention rivers of wee. Time for a coffee methinks xx
