Thought would start a new thread to discuss the artists (and other happenings) appearing at WoMAD 2018.
a new must see for me is Melissa Laveaux. Canadian with Haitian parents. A Haitian/Creole/New Orleans feel that puts me in mind of Leyla McCalla from last year. She appeared on Later with Jools Holland last week, a highlight amongst a particularly good lineup.

we haven't had a chance to check out this years line up and there are on a few artists we recognise we this year there will be a lot of new discoveries for us That is why similar threads in previous years hAve been so informative. Opportunity to share what we have discovered ourselves and build a list of must see performances for the upcoming festival. I really appreciate what everyone posts on here and it really does help with my Womad planning (although I often come to a different conclusion to the majority. You lot all enjoyed ACSS whereas at the same time I had my festival moment in the Siam tent enjoying Seu Jorge and his versions of Bowie classics 😃).

KOKOKO! Debruit assembled DR Congo musicians playing homemade instruments.....Can't wait. Yes, I like the idea of KOKOKO. PH recommends Too Many Zooz and Omar Souleyman, but I expect you knew that Grey. Hope to see you & Elaine before Womad x

Pleased to see that Jiggy in the line up this year. At least a little bit of ACSS will be there.

Been swapping notes with PH and he's buzzing at the idea of seeing Leo Pellegrino play with Too Many Zooz and I'll be up for its too. Omar Souleyman is a Bjork feat artist and he's been on my radar some time. PD see you at OYE and come and stay the night at ours no problem. www.africaoye.com/festival/line-up/

Working through the Womad lineup. Is Womad over four days or four weeks this year? If the former, then do not have a ghost of a chance of seeing most of the artists I have flagged up to see.
Just noticed Rodney Brannigan. Seen him once before and wow. He is from Texas where I have been told there is a tradition of trying to outplay each other on the guitar, or should I say guitars because he will play two guitars quite comfortably and play them both incredibly well.

Hi all, am I missing summat or is Cerys not doing her usual Sunday programme set this year? Can't find her on the app I thought the same PD, which is a shame. The first act on the CG stage on Sunday is at 12.00, so it looks like there'll be no Cerys

Hmm, maybe she's concentrating on her wonderful kids festival then? If her replacement is Gilles Petersen I hope he shuts up during his set. V annoying when he keeps yapping during his 6 Music programme.

Oh, just checked, he's in Big Red. Not a venue I like, too claustrophobic!

Oh, just checked, he's in Big Red. Not a venue I like, too claustrophobic! I have an aversion to the big red as well, sorry for some bad news but Too Many Zoos are on the big red stage. Might consider seeing them but the big red does put me off.
