Great to read your review, although it looks like i was at different stages to you for the majority of acts. Got my fingers crossed that Cambridge do not clash next year (or ever again) so you can enjoy both.

In no particular order... 1. Getting there and meeting up with good friends I hadn't seen for nearly a year 2. Camping with many of said friends. 3. Cheese & port (see points 1 & 2) 4. Someone in one of the nearby tents who was playing a xylophone in the early hours of Friday morning and sang one of the most beautiful songs I'd heard. I have no idea who they were, but thanks 5. My first ever trip to Malmesbury on the Friday morning (I had to make an emergency trip to the post office). What a lovely town. I will definitely make a point of doing this from now on. 6. Hanggai! 7. KermesZ à l’Est. Insane Belgians! Wonderful!!! 8. Tuuletar. Magical, mesmerising 9. Jiggy. After a wet morning when I was losing the will, they completely re-energised me! 10. Kimmo Pohjonen Skin - What a fantastic end to another great weekend! 11. All the other amazing things that I've missed out

My first list was from the stages. Other highlights: Wristband Exchange - didn't like the wristbands at all, but it is that moment when you're IN! Womad Forum Camp and campers and visitors - just brilliant; easy, fun and enjoyable company, enhanced with the odd drop of port, the odd G&T and a shedload of cheese and a barrel full of crackers. Mrs Trellis' first trips from car to camp and back and to Purple gate to meet friends The Tiny Tea Tent and everyone I chatted to in there - lovely as a drop in and the tea and company were fab New tent - put it up and took it down on my own, which was what I wanted to be able to to. And it was roomy enough for all the gear and two good sized rooms too. Very happy with it Lights - Cal N Del's tent, Port tent (RIP), Beanstew's tent - lovely! Rainbow, and the slate colour of the sky as a backdrop for the magical flags when the brief sun caught them on the last evening The expansion of the Physics Pavillion with the Lab etc, and the casual conversations with the people who run them - fab! The expansion of things going on for children - lovely to see - amazing variety, and the Parade was spectacular although I only saw on photos. Just so much more choice as to what to do/see/get involved with at Womad these days since my first at Reading in 1998. Loving it!

Ah yes, I forgot that highlight! Spending part of one morning (Saturday?) chatting to people who work on the Large Hadron Collider, who probably had many more important and pressing things to be getting on with, but were quite happy to spend the time enthusiastically answering questions about the LHC. I learned something too!

Hope I'm not too late - and sorry for not being around much for a while - long story, but I've missed this place. Glad to see you all had various kinds of Womadness fun.
I almost didn't go... and I almost wish I hadn't - maybe it was me, or my choice of what to see, but it just felt a bit like Womad-by-numbers this year. I found the line-up hard to navigate and just not very intruiging - a lot of North European/UK folk/jazz/DJ type stuff. Maybe the effects of the visa issues?
Really missed any Italian bands this year. I was looking forward to Syrian wedding singer Omar Souleyman but found the cheesey keyboard backing unlistenable. My favourites were the amazing Gaye Su Akyol and House of Water.
After House of Water on Saturday night I tried to catch the end of the Well Oiled Sisters, who I'd really enjoyed the first time I went to Womad back in 1994. I got to Molly's Bar just in time for the last song but couldn't see the stage because some people were standing up on something high. I didn't think too much of it and walked around the right side of them to get a better view. As I walked passed, someone fell of the table they were standing on and landed heavily on my left foot - my big toe is still bruised and bleeding 3 weeks later. Jeez did it hurt - it was dark and I almost didn't know what had happened. Then.... someone doing some fancy dancing hit me in the face and smashed my glasses.... I missed the last song while this was going on and spent the rest of the weekend worrying how the heck I was going to get my camping gear packed up and home with this bloody toe....
Saw Kimmo Pohjonen at the end on Sunday night - but would have preferred something I'd not seen before.
Hoping for better luck next year.....

Oh dear, sorry to hear you had such a bad experience, Beef. Hope your toe recovers soon.
I too wasn't excited by the line-up, but discovered a lot of stuff I really enjoyed. Agreed, Gaye Su Akyol was amazing. My main disappointment was Thursday evening - I didn't think either act was strong enough to whet the appetite for the weekend.

Glad to note that this year's ills haven't put you off Womad next year. Will have to meet - the forum folk would have helped packing and soothing toe and taping up glasses and may have made you a cup of tea....... or a G&T..... or port with a handsome piece of cheese....

Sorry to hear your experience at WOMAD this year was less than stellar. I have to believe WOMAD is better with a few meet ups with friends. Hope your toe heals quickly. Broken glasses are no fun at all. Off topic. Here's a picture to cheer you up Beef. Have driven by this place many times, but driving my tractor trailer, so no chance to check it out properly. Found myself in the area last Saturday when a friend who was in town had to cancel our dinner. It wasn't bad, lots to choose from. Anyway, driving by this place always makes me think of our resident Beef for some reason. Attachments:

As others have said, sorry to hear of your Saturday mishaps. Must admit, this year we avoided Molly’s bar, weird but the Vib of Mollys Bar seemed better placed for the young, bit like a theme bar in any large town. We also felt somehow the Womad magic had gone, but blamed ourselves rather than Womad, probably we will be looking elsewhere next year, maybe Greenman? ps I still owe you a shitty free cd called “Heavy Blues” 😀😀😀😀
