I absolutely love this country and have no desire to live anywhere else. (BesidesI have no appitude for learning a foreign language). I love the countryside. I admire, respect and a member of the Ramblers who help maintain and campaign for continued access to our plentiful footpaths. I love our climate. I love our coastline. I love our arts centres. I love our sporting spirit. I love our Industrial Heritage. I love our festivals. It's a shame about (minority) of Britain's citizens Very very true, you're right of course

It’s a shame about the right wing media and supposed politicians who get them worked up with prejudice and lies I feel your pain, it's a growing problem in all of what should be the free world. We are in a constitutional crisis, as America's founders could have never have foreseen the nightmare that has become our political system. Or that we would have not only a President willing to commit treason against his own people, but an entire party. Adding. Worst are the regular people rallying behind these horrible people with no regard to who will be hurt, including themselves. Though, they will be the one's most prepared to point the blame away from themselves. Seriously, we have Nazi's running for political office in the USA! I don't know how that is not a crime. One of the differences ZR, US can resolve it's problem President by voting him out in two years time. Here in the UK we are all being stripped of the Citizenship we have had for 45 years, we are having 27 Countries removed from our rights to live, work or roam in, we are being cut adrift in the World with no trade deals or friends, by fanatics that lied and cheated, it will not be fixed by an election, the people will suffer whichever party is in power, if we do not reverse the insanity and we do leave, it'll take the next generation 20 odd years to rejoin. The harm done in that time will be dreadful.

Agree with all that SC, but Brexit is a sympton not the cause, and the underlying issues are the real concern in the UK (and I'd guess the US too). It's also mainly the older generation, and very hard to reverse behaviours such as cynicism and greed. It is why Momentum is so important, it needs to generate multiple attractive role models that inspire different people in different ways. Corbyn can't do it on his own, and it's why Momentum was established, but I'm not seeing much success so far, possibly because there is no mainstream media outlet. I know you think the LibDems somehow offer a better future, but I can't see how that could happen, even in theory.

I posted this on my FB page. Probably shouldn't have... A couple hard-line right wing Brexiters posted comments contradicting my sympathies...and conveniently ignored my point that why has it got so difficult on last few years for folk to attain visas.i blame May and trying to appease the far right xenophobes

Another article along the same lines, but with the staggering quote "We’ve had situations where say an African artist has been due to come who plays a particularly rare instrument, and we’ll be asked, ‘Can’t you find someone in the UK who plays that instrument?’, which is absurd." Like what one commenter said "Yes perhaps the uk should have told Jimi Hendrix that it had plenty of guitar players in the UK already and didn’t need any foreign ones" www.radiotimes.com/news/radio/2018-07-25/womad-2018-festival-brexit-britain-visas/

Too many people in America don't realize how serious it is to vote. They will when they lose the right, or more, once the Republican's make it so that their vote really doesn't matter.

Watch tonight's Bill Maher, HBO or YouTube. We are reaching the point of 'Be afraid, be very afraid.' Too many people in America don't realize how serious it is to vote. They will when they lose the right, or more, once the Republican's make it so that their vote really doesn't matter. Just watched a clip where he describes Trump as a con man and snake oil salesman. So true and also relevant to the Brexit vote. We have Brexit supporters who know it will suit their own needs, make shedloads of money whilst we will be worse off. Warnings of a hard Brexit are dismissed as ‘project fear’ and they no longer even bother with giving reasons why Brexit will be good, just reeling out ‘the people have spoken, we are coming out’ over again. We have been conned and will end up paying for it! i liked when bill Maher said about republican trump voters, ‘no not going to call you stupid, just meet us halfway, by being less stupid’.

petergabriel.com/news/is-the-uk-losing-the-will-to-welcome-the-world/The problem with going on in the world is the effects of what is going on, like in pre-Nazi Germany, the effects are not immediate. If people don't wake up soon, like in 30's Germany, by the time the Nazi's gained enough control of the military to become the evil they were, it was too late. It's not surprising that Trump's administration started kicking out immigrants that are serving in the USA military honorably. Threatening to bring back kicking out LGBTQ people out of the military and such. After all, the more diverse your military, the less likely they will obey orders that violate military law and target specific communities. We can hope the upcoming elections can make a difference, but there are too many problems in place that even if 70 percent of Americans vote Democrat, the fix may be in. Trump talks rigged elections, because Putin is rigging it for him, but trying to do it in a way that makes sense. It would not surprise me if they had a hand in Bush's elections as well. There were a lot of hinky things back then as well, but Bush didn't talk to hear himself talk and kept his secrets better. Even without Kremlin hackers, gerrymandering districts and outright voter suppression are a real problem. During Bush's election one of my Cousins had to go home to get proof he was registered to vote. Somehow his name got dropped from the list, even though he received his voter information telling him where his polling station was. The last election I received an odd notice before the election and had to go and prove my residence, even though I had lived and voted from there and only there for ten years. Lots of very odd things like that make you wonder. Now our failed Illinois Governor Rauner has paved the way for a voting program called cross check to be used to push people off the voting register. It's hard to call ones country the land of the free as so many of our human rights are being warped or outright suppressed.

Similarities with pre war Germany are being flagged up by ZR and peter Gabriel. In today’s news, the Left wing book shop Bookmarks was attacked and trashed by masked right wing extremist thugs. Now, this is just like the actions of the Freicorps, brown shirts and nazi party members.
