Sad news that Toots Hibbert has passed away. Toots and the Maytals’ performance a couple of years ago at Womad is one of my highlights. A legend who’s performance and music still sounded fresh. It was well worth waiting to see him, remembering he had to cancel an earlier Womad appearance after he was hit in the head by a glass bottle thrown by some dickhead during a concert in the US. So glad he recovered and returned to performing. Unfortunately, it seems like he was unable to see off a Covid infection. www.theguardian.com/music/2020/sep/12/toots-hibbert-pioneering-reggae-star-dies-aged-77?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

He performed at WOMUD as well but like so many artists not at the scheduled time due to the total mud carnage of that year

He performed at WOMUD as well but like so many artists not at the scheduled time due to the total mud carnage of that year Ah ... WOMUD! My first WOM UAD. Not the worst Charlton Park weekend weather wise - for me that was perhaps 5 or 6 years ago - incessant rain on the Friday from 6am until around midnight or just gone, and then more incessant rain on the Sunday from 7am until around 11pm . All part of the British festival experience though . And Toots was certainly a brilliant festival experience that I'm lucky and happy to have had the chance to see. I am certainly NOT a dancer ... but Funky Kingston is one of those songs that particularly makes my bones 'jiggle around'!! R.I.P. Toots.
