Fantastic first line-up! Really excited about this. Looking forward to seeing Mariza, Souad Massi and Susana Baca, and Dakh Daughters, who are from the same stable as DakhaBrakha. Nina, the cellist with DakhaBrakha, has played with them before, I guess whether she will be with them this time depends on DakhaBrakha's commitments.
The email from Womad yesterday had Kate Rusby showing as performing on Thursday, though the website doesn't have this. Much as I like her stuff, I don't think her gentle folk is what's required to get the crowd going on Thursday evening. More geared to lying back in the sunshine in the arboretum letting her dulcet tones waft over you! I'm hoping it was a mistake in the email!

I was wondering about the Dakh Daughters, so pleased to see your research and link to DakhaBrakha, will definitely be there to see them. It could bode well for DakhaBrakha to be announced later on but they are working hard with their current tour to support Ukraine and it may be more important for the bigger picture if they have other international shows.
Not having had the email, I did not know that Kate Rusby was scheduled for the Thursday. The Thursday main stage has become a sort of ‘legends’ slot over recent years and I would think there is another big name being considered.

Cal and Del saw Dakh Daughters supporting DakhaBrakha when they went to Kiev. I will leave them to provide more details!

One change to the line-up is that Taxi Kebab, who I very much wanted to see, won't be playing. Apparently the duo have split up, shame.
Good news is that Liraz, singer from Israel, will be performing. I've heard a few things by her on Radio 3's Music Planet, sounds good.

Can't say I'm terribly excited about the full line-up, but I've said this before and there have been some absolute gems!
Soul II Soul don't really float my boat, and Thursday for me is a bit of a disappointment (Jungle Brothers and Kate Rusby),
But anyway it's gonna be fab!

Think we can safely say that it will only be Kate Rusby as ‘headliner’ on Thursday. Will be very pleasant and enjoyable, but not enough to ‘whoop our frocks’ and get us going for the weekend.

I'm going to give the New York guys a go on the stage with the good sound system. After a nice meal, a few drinks and a good smoke, I reckon they'll be good. Agree with you that Womad should be all about foreign music as there are plenty of British and Celtic folk festivals but only one Womad. Kate is playing at Cambridge on the Saturday so it would have been better to give a British band like Electric Jalaba a crack at surfing the Thursday evening energy.
