Really looking forward to an amazing long weekend of music in beautiful Whitby.
Heading off from Kent early tomorrow, have a great feeling of anticipation, and may let you know how I am getting on:)

So I arrived, that's definitely a good thing, quite a crowd already, and I already had a super tasty chicken satay. It's going to be great weekend. First off, Rokia Kone...
Now it's Sunday morning and it's all been fabulous so far. Bumper turn-out and some excellent music. Standouts being Rokia Kone, Jah Wobble, Alicia Edelweiss, Pankisi Ensemble, the Ukrainians, Divanhana and Fulu Miziki, none of whom I have ever seen before, well apart from Rokia I guess.
My personal favourite being Alicia Edelweiss for some authentic kookiness. Her cockroach song managed to be extremely moving and funny at the same time.
Afro Celt Sound System today:)...
Musicport was awesome. That is all.

Completely agree Oilrow, fabulous weekend and for me the standout act was Alicia Edelweiss, I only got to see the last section of her act, but WOW! I fell in love. The hoola hoop act will stay with me forever.
I'll perhaps do a bigger review later but, I'm sipping tea at King's Cross and it's time to go home.
Jah Wobble was awesome as always, Afro Celts have got their mojo back ..... laters

Did you see Qadasi and Maqhinga? In my top 5 all time festival performances. I was in tears the whole time. An emblem for South Africa, hope, bravery, futility. I admire both of them so much.

Yes, we were in the balcony, brilliant gig, I think it's the first time I've heard "clicks" in songs

Yes, we were in the balcony, brilliant gig, I think it's the first time I've heard "clicks" in songs Had that experience at the Shetland Folk Festival with a band called Kabantu. A young group of musicians that met in college. The cellist from South Africa that was with the band at the time, Abel Selaocoe has played WOMAD after going on his own. It seems after 10 years the remaining members of the band are having their final gig this month on the 15th in Manchester. www.kabantu.com/Abel playing his Cello and wide ranging vocals.

Oh, and Musicports early birds on on sale now. I'd be very tempted, but given the USA's politics might be better to save a bit more money right now. Sigh. www.musicportfestival.com/
