Just watched the Tribe, a Ukrainian film where the cast are all deaf-mutes and the only communication is sign language. There are no subtitles. Different, challenging and ultimately rewarding. Deafness as a way of life, not a disability, but bleak. Some political statements being made too. Why not give it a go - downloadable from Amazon.

Del saw it in the cinema when it came out and he found it a very powerful film and it didn't matter that he could understand the Ukrainian sign language the story was so well told

Tonight is Film Society night! We have A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night - An Iranian vampire comedy filmed in California - verdict later I thought it was excellent, pretty sure it wasn't a comedy, but definitely an Iranian Vampire Cowboy James Dean Rebel film. The Cinematography was brilliant, acting moody, but the sound tracks and sound effects were breathtaking with detail exaggerated giving the viewer a drug or dream like experience. Yet another 10/10 from me so again it will probably bomb from the audience vote

So is anyone watching the new Westworld?
The last episode had music reminiscent of the New Blood Tour.

Last night we used recommendations from this thread and the one in "Full Moon Pub" to choose a film to watch. We watched "Under the Skin" I liked it, Mrs SC isn't sure

Also as the end of session 2 of Poldark comes leaping in, I'm not sure if I have missed something, but why do George and Poldark not get on? Anyone know?

Watched "Room" tonight, a story about the son of an abducted girl imprisoned in a room, his first 5 years of experience are just that room with his mother, then escape and his reaction to the world outside. Powerful and my eyes filled up at one point (hey I do that quite easily with films, emotions and laughter)

Powerful and my eyes filled up at one point (hey I do that quite easily with films, emotions and laughter) Saw that a few weeks ago. A very interesting and quite moving film. The scene with the kid escaping, I was screaming for him to make it. Incredible tension

Just got back from watching "Love and Mercy" (The story of Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) from 1960's to 1980's) It was very interesting but seemed more documentary than film. To be honest, by joining a Film Society, I would hope to see, films that are weird, wonderful and challenging, I can't say this was. It would have been far better viewed on BBC4. having said that I still graded it as "Good" (that's the middle on voting) so I guess the majority of the Society will grade it as "excellent" 5/10 but worth a watch

We went to see magical creatures and where to find them last night
Cal really liked it thought it was well down
Del wasn't convinced and thought it had the potential to be a bit darker and more challenging
