Whilst I am sad to hear of anyone losing their lives, whether state employees protecting democracy or misguided Trump supporters, I find it hard to have any sympathy for the woman (ex vet) who was killed. For a while, newspaper reports included a link to her Twitter page. The stuff she was retweeting was appalling, conspiracy theories, mindless devotion to Trump, and against steps to restrict the spread of Covid. This was someone happy to retweet a post comparing the inconvenience of having to wear a face mask (why do we have to wear a mask to protect the majority) with gang rape (the majority imposing themselves on a single person).

Indeed Zenrider - unfortunately the link doesn't work in the UK, but the url says it. It's hard to believe that people can't see the unfairness in their attitude nor see how damaging the resulting inequality is to society.

It is now almost 10 years since the referendum that could have changed our political spectrum for the better and no I d not mean Brexit!
The amount of people who say they voted leave as they were fed up with the politicians not doing enough for them. But, they have all forgotten we had a vote just before that to change our domestic politics, a vote for AV. As Billy Bragg said, it was the chance to make your local mp work harder for you, otherwise no seat would remain safe for a party. It was the tonic we needed to change how we are regarded and listened to. And as a country we voted against in high numbers, a real opportunity we lost only to throw away so much just five years later.
My great regret in life....voting no to AV (to SC I cannot apologise enough).

At least the Tories have a simple message which seems hard to disguise. Get rich by any means, stay rich, sod the poor (let them eat cake).

Johnson gets Tory donors to fund his gross refurbishmentof number 10, whilst leaseholders of flats will have to spend tens of thousands to correct the cladding to make themselves safe. Disgraceful

Disgraceful ...I was thinking the same mikey - and also what will it take for people to see through this vile club of self-serving chancers? I've no idea... justice, fairness and decency doen't seem to get the votes... Here's a good resume of Bullshitter's achievements so far: www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/apr/30/scandal-charge-sheet-johnson-wallpaper-lying

But I refuse to join what can only be called evil. In the meantime remember to enjoy good and the beauty that is still well and good in the world. Without that it's too easy to forget what is worth fighting for.

Interesting article that, the real horror is summed up in the last paragraph, "Or maybe the real scandal lies with us, the electorate, still seduced by a tousled-hair rebel shtick and faux bonhomie that should have palled years ago. Americans got rid of their lying, self-serving, scandal-plagued charlatan 100 days ago. They did it at the first possible opportunity. Next week, polls suggest we’re poised to give ours a partial thumbs-up at the ballot box. For allowing this shameless man to keep riding high, some of the shame is on us."
The country seems to have lost the ability, if it ever had it, for critical thinking.
