I met him back in 1990 at Labour Party conference fringe, Blackpool. Being young and naive, I asked if I could shake his hand to thank him for his plain speaking. He asked why on earth I would want to do that, stating firmly that he wasn't a hero and was only speaking on behalf of those who'd had a rough deal because that was his job. He didn't mince his words then either.

We cant get young people interested in politics today, because its all so PC, this is great. It reminds me that there are few great orators left in The Commons these days because few will defy the whip to speak their mind.

I agree DT, and hopefully, with Labour under it's current leadership young people will be reconnected to politics. I struggle to see it myself, but my kids do see it, and importantly the young have abandoned the Liberals and are looking for a home either inside or outside of politics, if Labour can get them, they are a huge spread of voters across the nation and could make a hell of a difference. As for MP's with "Sparkle" adding colour to the Commons, as you say, there used to be a lot of them, now only a few, and a lot of them are sitting on the Governments benches. As for Whittingdale - easy mistake to make

RIP Prince. Sad ...but intrigued by the missing link I guess it wasn't good publicity for Womad having someone dissing it's punters like that though.
