Just an idea - probably doesn't really lend itself to the multi-lingual world of music, but . . . who knows. What are the lyrics that stay with you?
Here's one of my all time favourites -
"I want to wander through the night As a figure in the distance Even to my own eye"
Silver Jews - "How to rent a room"

Got to the opening lines of Patti Smith's Gloria Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine Meltin' in a pot of thieves Wild card up my sleeve Thick heart of stone My sins my own They belong to me, me Patti starts with what seems to be a rather provocotive statement "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine" which sounds as though she is rejecting the teachings of Jesus, but Patti often has two or three ideas going on in a poem/song at any one time. Looking at the 1st, 5th and 6th line being one of the story lines the statement makes sense. Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine My sins my own They belong to me, me or "When my times comes and stand before God I shall be fully accountable for the action of my life" Awesome

Just one line: 'Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind' Rolling Stones, Ruby Tuesday Brilliant track PD, it always has a place in my heart when my then girlfriend sang along to it at a party (many many years ago) and managed to throw up at each pause in the singing and yet get it back together for the next line. Fab thread, Beef... first song to really excite me lyrically was Suzanne (Leonard Cohen) in its entirety, specifically: .... she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China... there are heroes in the seaweed.... and thereafter discovered such vivid visual imagery in every song he's written. Again, Tom Waites' both generally and specifically - "Hell Broke Luce" is a powerful listen. Love Marc Bolan's Trex lyrics; generally and specifically "Ride a White Swan". There'll be more popping in my head now no doubt!
