Have been up in the Shetlands. Visited a friend, who's a bit older, who retired up to the Shetlands, but that's a story for another place.
Then wandered about. Took a lot of pictures once on my own. Not all the wildlife cooperated. Saw Puffins my first day, when I was more busy concentrating on which side of the road I was on, then figuring out where I could stop to take a picture. Which means they hid from me the rest of the time . OK, probably spent too much time hiking in some spots to make it to theirs. Saw one seal from a distance, though the tides had more to do with not seeing more. Missed seeing the Orcas, but others enjoyed telling me how great it was seeing them.
BTW, if you stop in Jamieson's of Shetland and you make the mistake of trying on a sweater after the woman guesses your size and suggest trying on 'this' sweater, just for fit. Yep, you will find it not only fits but looks great on you. So, in a nutshell, I have a fine new Shetland sweater. Pictures to come later, it's been too warm to wear it. lol
As it is, I am now on my last full day in the UK. Spending it in the Aberdeen area. Went for a drive yesterday afternoon after taking a cab from the ferry to the airport, sorting out another car rental and being fortunate that my hotel room was ready early. And the guy fixing something in the vestibule was more then happy to help me lug some of my luggage up. As for the ferry crossings, lucked into some nice weather and had a nice trip both ways. (back to Aberdeen) Found the hotel after driving in circles trying to find the right streets. We are on an easier grid system in the states, you know. Later took a drive and stumbled on Frazier Castle. The volunteers that tell the stories about the castle are fantastic as were the ladies in the little shop. Walked the trails and largely had the place to myself on a beautiful late afternoon.
After the quiet, aside from the sound of the wind, in Shetland, it's a bit of a shock to be in a busy city with the traffic and airplane noises.
Will be heading down to Dunnottar Castle today and if time, who knows where I could end up before heading back to the hotel. If I had more time I might have tried to meet up with some of you, but used up all my 'visiting' time with my friend up in the Shetlands.
