Day 1.....Kitchen deconstruction day. Cabinets, tiles on both walls and floor removed. Mini flood when baby builder chiselled through the mains water pipe that was partially buried in the wall. All that is left is the sink and cooker...neither really usable. Day 2.....dusty day. Walls channelled out for new flush sockets and wiring. Ceiling taken down and new electric wires threaded all over the place. Day 3 (today)....first fix electrics completed in the kitchen. There is now no lighting in there, but the fittings for the led spotlights are hanging down from the rafters. Wires are also through the wall to the garden for the outside supply that we asked for. Mains water pipe completely replaced when it was discovered that the old one was in the way of a new double socket. Dust everywhere...and I want to be in Corfu right now!!

Jax, this is brilliant - thanks for sharing the Great Restoration with us - maybe Baby Builder can keep us up todate while you're in Corfu? Gosh - what will it be like when you get back?

Day 4...new faces, a plasterer and an apprentice plumber...and lots of new voices that I could hear but chose not to investigate! Another dust laden day, drilling through outside wall to create a vent for my new extractor thingumy. I escaped for a few hours and when I came back my old oven was outside and the old sliding kitchen door was in the skip. The builders have created a plastic barrier where the door was. There is now a new plasterboard ceiling and some socket back boxes in the walls and a bit of filling in here and there. The plastering continues tomorrow. To cheer myself up I've packed as much of my suitcase as I can!.

Seems to be cracking on - how far along will the kitchen be by the time you return from Corfu?

Day 5.....the plastering continues. My list of things to do is pretty well completed now but Warrior has plenty of things to sort out and pack away before we fly at 6am on Monday morning. Computer stuff, bike stuff.... The house is so dusty that you can smell it in the air, so we are off out to lunch to escape. We are dismantling our big old heavy wooden bed frame tomorrow and will be sleeping on the mattress on the floor, probably until the house is completed and new carpetting laid upstairs....possibly until August!!!! By the time we get back on the 6th June, the kitchen should be all but finished and we should have a working shower and loo in the bathroom.

jax do you have a count of the number of mugs of tea/coffee that have been consumed?

On day 1 I told them that they were to ask me if they wanted a tea or coffee, rather than me keep having to check and to date I have made......3 cups! They are beautifully self sufficient.

Day 6.....a day of rest for the builders...gearing themselves up for some football match or other that locals seem to have their knickers in a twist about...'come on you eagles'....or some such nonsense! We are glad of a bit of respite from the noise and dust....our bed is dismantled...it weighs a ton....solid wood from Malaysia....we are packed as much as we can be for now and Warrior is just sorting out his last bits and pieces of 'stuff'.
