Bamba Wassoulou Groove, La Mambanegra and Volosi
Lopa Kothari and Mary Ann Kennedy are joined by Kathryn Tickell for the first of a weekend of broadcasts from the globe's leading festival of world music, live from Charlton Park in Wiltshire. With highlights from the Siam Tent set by Bamba Wassoulou Groove, a band formed by members of Mali's legendary Super Rail Band; La Mambanegra, who come from Colombia's salsa capital Cali, also in the Siam Tent; and from the BBC Radio 3 Charlie Gillett Stage there's Volosi, a mix of classical string players with folk musicians from the Poland's Carpathian Mountains.

Direct from the Siam Tent, Indian classical music mixed with Rajasthani desert folk from Desert Slide, featuring Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, a virtuoso of the Indian slide guitar; and live from the BBC Radio 3 Charlie Gillett Stage, Otava Yo from St. Petersburg, a band blending Russia's folk heritage with more than a hint of punk rock; and highlights from BBC Introducing band Amaraterra, Italian expats performing the ecstatic tarantella music of Southern Italy. Plus interviews and a visit to the Radio 3 Session Tent.

Baaba Maal and Anoushka Shankar
Radio 3 returns to Charlton Park for over three hours of live music and highlights from the leading world music festival including Senegalese superstar Baaba Maal, Indian sitarist Anoushka Shankar, and live from the BBC Radio 3 Charlie Gillett Stage, Kel Assouf, a Brussels-based band led by Tuareg singer and guitarist Anana Harouna. Other highlights include Polish folkgroup Muzykanci performing live on the Siam Stage, kora virtuoso Diabel Cissokho, and Tuvan throat-singing from the Alash Ensemble. In between, the Radio 3 Session Tent offers more extraordinary roots music from Haiti's Chouk Bwa Libete and the Hanoi Masters from Vietnam, as well as a live performance from Sardinian a cappella group Cuncordu e Tenore de Orosei. Presented by Lopa Kothari, Mary Ann Kennedy and Kathryn Tickell.

Cerys is live at WOMAD introducing listeners to the delights of this World of Music Arts and Dance which embraces music from all corners of the globe, as well as dance, drumming and cuisine.
We'll be bringing you live music from Dom La Nena, Buika, The East Pointers and Bafula.
First launched by Peter Gabriel in 1982, the World of Music Arts and Dance (WOMAD) festival has been held in Charlton Park in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, since 2007. This year's artists include Dom La Nena, Buika, George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic, Charles Bradley, Baaba Maal, John Grant, Hot 8 Brass Band and The Breath.
In the second half of the show, Cerys is heading over to the Charlie Gillett stage to join up with Lopa Kothari, the presenter of World on 3, and a festival audience. In a live simulcast on both BBC 6 Music and Radio 3, Cerys and Lopa will share an array of live music that includes Brazil's Dom La Nena and the BBC Introducing find Bafula.

Cerys Matthews joins Lopa Kothari in a simulcast with BBC Radio 6 Music, live from the BBC Radio 3 Charlie Gillett Stage. With interviews, CD tracks plus live music from BBC Introducing artist Bafula, Brazilian cellist Dom La Nena and The East Pointers from Canada's Prince Edward Island.

Radio 3's weekend of live broadcasts from the world music festival concludes with a celebration of West African music including sets by Ghanaian highlife veteran Pat Thomas, Guinean-born songwriter Moh! Kouyate, and the Malian supergroup Les Amazones d'Afrique whose all-female line-up includes Mariam Doumbia and Mamani Keita. Other music tonight include Kurdish singer Aynur, the monks of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, and Quebecois folk from Le Vent Du Nord. And in between stage highlights we visit the Radio 3 Session Tent for music from Sahrawi singer Aziza Brahim and Portugal's Lura. Presented by Lopa Kothari, Mary Ann Kennedy and Kathryn Tickell.
