Female barn owl with 3 chicks?oldest 9 days old, next 4 days and third..today!! Laying of eggs staggered so easier to feed and youngest may become food for older stronger ones...sort of live larder..
One fluffed up female bullfinch..orchard owners didn't like them..in past bounty offered.. She has 2 chicks and 2 eggs to go..

9 bluetit chicks..feeding well but a few slower developers fed mainly caterpillars..not long till they fledge ..had an investigator today..greater spotted woodpecker..very interested and ate omnivores so could easily tak nestlings..these bluetits maybe too big to be lunch
Barn owl mum helped chick by removing bits of egg..one more egg to go. Barn owls continue mating even when have eggs and chicks..Brett thinks part of the bonding.
Jays lots of wing flapping..won't be long till fledge..2/3. Days, hope nest holds out...
Male bullfinch feeing chicks..alternately so have fair share.
Adult jay arrived and eaten faecal sack..recycling...

Gary Farmer..entomologist..area has ancient trees in forest, lots of dead wood too..homes for invertebrates.. Gary and Brett investigating dead wood...found head of hornet...often nest in old trees..they eat loads of pests..so do more good than harm...not aggressive, all animals living in dead wood...eg..break down wood and return it to soil..another recycling project, millipedes shiney wood louse, beetles emerge from their nests leaving tiny holes ..which then get us d for others nests. Fungi and beetle larvae vital for breakdown of wood. Smaller holes may be used later by bats or small birds such as wrens. Please leave your dead wood as valuable wildlife habitats. Hover flies live in dead wood and vital for pollination..maybe even more Han bees..if have an orchard..leave some dead wood.

Gary's photos...gorgeous pic of a rot hole which holds water so many insects living in the water too..soem fungi live on the water...spot the camouflaged moth! Most fungi..we don't see end harmful to tree...they are usually there because wood dead rather than causing it.
Millipedes..feeding on dead wood, centipede..carnivore..can run fast..variegated one has stripey legs , wood lice..many regional names..will live anywhere and join us in our homes, pill woodlice roll themselves up, in last because looked as a pill was taken for stomach upsets...Brett's plea..please don't eat wood lice..not effective and apparently tastes awful...vital wood munchers, returning dead wood to the soil.
Look round the base of a tree and turn over bits of dead wood..lots of spiders and lacewood spiders..mum sacrifice themselves for their young..they eat her...wolf spider on Brett's arm. Always put the piece of wood back.

Lots of woodlice in old bird nest boxe..taking shelter and clearing detritus. 5 common species of wood lice and another 20 or more..some tiny. Woodlice are crustaceans more closely related to crabs and lobsters..hold eggs in ouch under their legs.
Pics of worm slugs..long and thin and not troublesome..spreading round country , snails..many different species. Some minute and graze on algae and detritus...glow worms feed on slugs and snails. They will be appearing soon.
Vicious predator of slugs and snails..tips them over, sharp mandible..eats way in to shell... A buzzing snail hunter beetle..long nose so can get into snail shell.
Scarlet longhorn beetle..quite rare larvae live in dead wood. Adult needs open flowers..feed on pollen and nectar. Cramp horn fungus weevil ( feeds on fungi) looks like a bird dropping..if disturbed falls off turns over so looks different..confuses birds.
Noble Chaffee..rarely seen..phras? Grass...ie beetle poo a give away. It's in the tree. Pooh lasts for years as very hard.
Earwigs..lesnay's earwig?? Speciality of vale of Evesham...flightless. They are beneficial insects....pollinators
Plum trees flower early so good for bumblebees.
Bee fly..looks like a bee and flicks its eggs down a solitary bee nest. Larvae eat the food their and maybe the eggs..
Soldier fly also a pollinator as are wasps..so there is a purpose to wraps after all!!!

Steven been up since 4 am, Jays nest precarious.....one of Jays fallen out of the nest..several feet from nest..three in nest...now appearing distressed..lots of flapping..spruce branches fine, intermesh and hang down..so difficult to get back in, adults confused. Will adults still feed it? Aargh..they are in Jaypardy!!!
Concern re Barn owls..not much feeding..bringing voles and rats, wet weather may have effected them.

Oops..Lucy is the Series producer of Unsprungshe thinks of unsprung as people to the wild life rather than wildlife to the people.
Previews...strand..hide share.... Chris with his mobile hide..visited people's gardens, local area or area they are at home in and have personal conversations.... Chris with popular hide tent..pouring rain and Chrris squelching away with goggles, and water arm bands..went to London wetland centre where very very wet..to meet Ellie Symmonds
Each clip Chris dressed to kill..he dressed to suit who he was meeting..wearing chain mail helmet and wielding a sword...Chris in a beatiful Orange tutu..oh to behold..yay gorgeous!!! Guess the celeb game..

Ah the ballerina..Darcy Bussel...before the interview.in the hide..Darcy fell off the log seat! Lovely clip of their conversation..
Different response to hide..Darcy wanted to take it home, Julian Clary hated it..felt was going to be trapped for ever.
Chris with glitzy dress jacket and feather boa ...Craig Revel Horward from Strictly....
Interesting point about wren song..needs to be loud as sings low down and has to get through the foliage..f a thrush easily broadcast from the top of a tree..
Unsprung's animals..dogs trained to look for wildlife..bugs, weasel coming in...
Unsprung starting Monday..at 630.. Runs for 2 weeks.
New nest..Robin..beautiful mossy construction. So far seen 3 chicks , as so young probably a second brood. Number of broods determined by climate..if a good year and plenty of food..likely a second brood. male and female both sing as defend different territories in winter.
