We are relatively new parents to our very first tent and we are bringing him to WOMAD for the very first time (though it's not his first experience of a festival). We have booked meadow park & camp as we like it quiet and don't mind the long walk. However we wondered if we got a choice of camping plot or whether we get designated to a pre-allocated one or whether they are just allocated in a line in order of arrival. The answer may affect the time we aim to arrive on Thursday. Don't want to have to camp next to the loos or showers! Thanks and see you all on Thursday!

Hi DH, I don't know about Meadow Park and Camp, but we used Park and Camp the year before last and will be again this year. We chose which grid to camp in, we like you drove a long way from the toilets and chose a grid with no one on either side, so certainly not in any order. One thing worth noting though, some people had a bit of trouble very early on and were told that their car had to be parked on the grid as well as the tent/tents (you can have more than one tent on your grid). If you are told that then stick to your guns, the car is parked NEXT to the grid. It might be worth printing out the rules from the Womad Website to show any marshal that has not been properly told what the system is. womad.co.uk/tickets/park-camp-ticket/

My daughter and I have used Park and Camp and Meadow Park and Camp. Last year in Park and Camp we were able to negotiate with the marshall who initially wanted to allocate a pitch on very rough ground too far from the main walkway. As daughter was 7 months pregnant and I have arthritic knees he allowed us to move to a spot of our choosing but from what I saw they were amiable allowing people to move but this was only before the area became really busy. Yes, stick to your guns politely and hopefully you'll get what you want.

Thank you everyone - really helpful advice there which we appreciate. Will print off the relevant section of the rules, get there early and be ready to use my arthritic hip as a reason to be camped on a nice even plot!!!

Yes the marshalls change each year. Im hoping when I arrive in P&C 8am Friday they will be more relaxed and I shallpoint out that I will be joined by someone undergoing radiotherapy who will need rest during the day so no plots by toilets etc.
