Saddened to hear of his death yesterday. I was a big fan of the Fall from the 70's when championed by John Peel. Probably not to averyones taste, his careeer spanned 40 years, and made around 30 albums, 'hiring and firing' musicians along the way. I saw the band in the 80's at Bristol Uni - it remains one of my favourite gigs of all time.

Yep, he sure was one of a kind. A bit of a loon you might say but seemed determined to do it his way.
Likewise, I have very fond memories of watching The Fall at The Ritz in Manchester mid 80's and early 90's. I watched them last year at Bearded Theory, it was a great gig. Musically a marmite band, I can get why it wasn't everyone's cup of tea.
RIP Mark E Smith.
