I am a bit confused b6 what Cerys said on her programme this morning. Just listened back to make sure I heard correctly, she announced Abdullah Ibrahim and said she would be meeting up with him at Womad. Reading into that, I would have thought that the BBC will have a presence this year, there are more artists to be announced and Cerys will be doing a slot with interviews, very happy 😃
Later on though, when she played Abdullah’s track, there was no mention of Womad but she will be talking to him at Cheltenham jazz next week. Did she get her festivals mixed up? 🙁

I emailed Womad about the site map changes, and they replied to say that, due to BBC's cutbacks, Radio3 won't be returning to Womad.
Very sad - I bet that the huge amount of money the BBC put into broadcasting from the likes of Glastonbury and their Big Weekends dwarfs the amount they spend on Womad. Oh well.
Womad also confirmed that the Red Tent and d&b soundscape are combining, and that there will be a 'different structure', whatever that means. Whether this too is a cost cutting measure, or whether it's to deliver a more pleasurable experience, I don't know. Whichever, I look forward to hearing more about it nearer the time...

That's really bad news on Radio 3 not returning and I'm not liking the sound of the Red Tent merging. Let's see how that turns out, hopefully a positive move

Let's see how that turns out, hopefully a positive move And remember this is all due to the f*****g Tories pushing the £700 million cost of pensioners' free tv licences onto the BBC- is there anything those b******s won't wreck? This does say that we have the final line up already then............... with no Radio 3 announcements to be expected. Such a shame. Huge loss. I'm also sad at the combining of the D&B and Big Red - very different flavours - I spent so many happy hours in the B& W and D&B but a seldom few in Big Red, so this is coming across as a loss to me. Different structure............... well, we're two stages down, so I suppose that'll mean the Siam and Charlie Gillett will be counterpointing with the Main and D&B stages. We'll have to wait and see what else unfolds ...... it may be a treasure trove of surprises!

I have 28 must sees for this year's Womad. Maybe I'll be able to see more workshops - I've not been to any these past few years, so this might be nice to do again.

I don’t get to enough workshops but a couple of years ago I saw the Chinese family at a workshop. They played all sorts of strange instruments. It was the highlight of my festival. Whilst we’re at it, have you seen the Musicport line up ! Your neck of the woods 😄

Well, now we know that the second announcement included most of the D&B stage line up. No more big names to come other than whoever turns up for Mollys Bar (and who may turn up as a last minute booking). Think I will be happy for the line up at the CG and the main stage but worry that the standard may no longer be so high for the Siam (acts that previously occupied theBig Red tent). For instance Black Water County, were at Tolpuddle a couple o& years ago and thought were blooming awful, should be at Mollys at best, maybe Big Red but in the Siam? No way Jose. Rant over, I’ve got to say that Robert Plant with Saving Grace on the D&B will sound amazing (providing everyone stops talking) along with others appearing on the stage. Oh and have forgotten the Ecotricity Arboretum stage which should have some amazing acts.
