As a part timer here, sorry if this has been mentioned. But don't suppose the lack of a webcam this year is anything to do with the disappearance of the Big Red Tent? World Of Words appears to have filled the space on the program by keeping it to five columns per page but i feel it's a poor replacement for a music stage. d&b stage was always on the right side of the program with the five main stages taking the left side.

Not sure why they lost a stage
May be they just wanted to trim some fat of the line up

the last few WOMADs have been wet which is bound to put some off, also people are spending less across the board (well they north of the border)and that will have an impact too

Won't even mention the effing B word.

We do agree beef, we don’t live in the south so didn’t want to pass comment on something we don’t have direct experience of

I don't know how much money Womad makes on the UK festival these days. Are the figures ever made public? I seem to recall it sold out a few years ago, but hasn't since. It must be difficult for Womad to attract punters - not only can people afford less these days, but there are also many festivals to choose from. New ones seem to be springing up everywhere each year.
So I'm not surprised that they decided to reduce the number of stages, if it was indeed a cost-cutting measure. Also BBC's decision to withdraw live broadcasting from the Charlie Gillett stage can't have helped.
Even so, I'm still excited about the wide range of artists performing over the weekend, and even though there are somewhat fewer acts to choose from, I've put together a fairly busy schedule which I'm sure will keep me a happy punter.

Blimey are you looking for a job with the BBC? Womad rarely sells out, but your post makes it sound like ticket sales are down by 18%. But reading the thread, that stat relates to the loss of a stage, and has nothing to do with ticket sales. And given its impossible to see everything in any case, I'm pretty confident I'll get to see just as much great music this year as before. You voted for Brexit didn't you, how do you think that is going?

That's what I've found too - still have a chock full schedule of things which I'm looking forward to, so no loss felt in terms of what's on offer at all. 😀

Just had a thought about the loss of Big Red... We gained an extra stage a few years ago when B&W (later D&B) arrived, so really we are now just back to the same number of stages we used to have

We don't speak to anyone on the efestivals forum Grey. A bit of a falling out that I may have mentioned to you a while back So unless I've missed some information here, does anyone know where Cerys is going to be this year? I guess she's just doing her usual Sunday broadcast 'live' in the back of a BBC van

I have to say that in the heat of the moment I forgot all about Cerys (how could I!) even though I’d enjoyed her shows in the past. Was she there? I saw nowt in the programme. Has she gone with the cuts? Dumbing down of bbc commensurate with Brexit thinking and trumpesque attitude?

Womad criticizes Home Office/Foreign Office re approach to issuing visas and impact of Brexit one year, and the BBC reduces it's involvement the next year. Coincidence? Possibly. No comment on visas this year from Womad though, as far as I can see.
