When I heard the news sc I remembered that you were into TG - but they're one of my (many) musical blind spots - what would you recommend starting with?

A great CD is "Throbbing Gristles Greatest Hits - ENTERTAINMENT THROUGH PAIN" Mine has a bonus CD and the whole package gives a very good overview of the work of the band. If however, you wish to be more "pure" and go for an original recording then "Throbbing Gristle bring you 20 Jazz Funk Greats", probably their greatest commercial success album and most accessible to the public Attachment Deleted

Another legend from the late 70's passes away, so very sad.

Not everyone's cup of tea, to put it mildly, but a sad loss all the same.
I haven't heard much of Throbbing Gristle's stuff, maybe I should give it a try. I struggled with '20 Jazz Funk Greats', but I love the album cover. I wonder how many people unknowingly bought it based on the sleeve, only to be somewhat surprised by its content!

Thank you Rendrags, a lovely review 👍 It is right to struggle with it and certainly so back in 1979! But it had power, emotion and kicking at taboos. They made change that is now mainstream. I somewhat impressed myself when I said to a friend about his death “It must be kinda nice to leave this world knowing you have caused change whilst others polished” Rather pleased with that 😀 Led Zep, Genesis, Beatles, Rolling Stones etc all just polished the work of others, Throbbing Gristle brought something new, they changed music 😀

Initial reaction? Cheesy Biscuit Tin Lid art. Nice view, clean cut band .......but ........ standing on the edge of Beachy Head? Turn the album over ....... an abandoned Range Rover on the edge of Beachy Head ...... geez Attachment Deleted

I was just looking on Spotify and "The Greatest Hits" album I have may not be the best overview. I got "20 Jazz Funk Greats" many years ago and then perhaps 10 years ago bought "The Greatest Hits", but looking on Spotify it was released in 1980!!!! They carried on working after that! I just seem to have the early stuff, maybe I too need to invest

Tempted to have a listen to "A Souvenir Of Camber Sands" - released within minutes of the end of the gig in 2004 Attachment Deleted
