I've just read that Manu Dibango has died of Covid-19. He played Womad in 2014. RIP. Oh no, that is sad. I was introduced to his music at a place I used to work in the early to mid 90s. Wonderful music. Saw him at Manchester Apollo in the mid 90s. I only found out about the gig the day before. Phoned the venue on the day to check they had tickets then picked one up at the box office half an hour before the gig. It was for row B! I've never seen a gig there so poorly attended, but the band took it in their stride and it was an incredibly fun night that has stuck with me ever since.

Sad news. I dindn't know much about him - I missed him at Womad 2014. I was watching Suum on the CG stage at the time (I've just checked, I don't need much of an excuse to get my programs out!). Sad that it's taken his death for me to listen to some of his stuff. Blimey he was excellent. It's worth listening to Gilles Peterson's program from last Saturday which had a feature on him.
