So, is anyone going to his continued Back to Front tour in Europe? Or are most of us just waiting to see if he's going to give us something new eventually, hopefully...?

I honestly have almost zero interest in PG these days - just don't understand how an "innovator" can keep churning out the same old stuff. It must be a good earner I guess, but I wouldn't go if the tickets were free.

Aside from his rehashing the old stuff... , I think some of his issue is spending time with the young kids helping them come out with new stuff. As for Peter's new stuff, he's probably recorded plenty and has plenty to spare. One has to wonder if he's almost afraid to come out with new stuff after being put in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and being named a Prog God? A tall order to live up to. I'm still interested, but have always found his fans more interesting. Which is why I was hoping more would join us here. That said, as far as what Peter is doing now, I have to say it was more fun seeing Papa Bear with the Stick Men at a small venue in Chicago.

I really don't know what's stopping him from recording/releasing new stuff - but I can't believe that it's because of having a family - international touring must be far more disruptive than recording. I just know that I got bored quite a while ago with the diet offered of expensive box sets and same-old "So 25-going-on-30" tours, with the odd hint of "new stuff" thrown in once in a while for good measure. I saw him in London for the Radio recording of New Blood a few years ago which was quite amazing, but that's pretty much it in. . . 13 years since Up? I used to love what PG did, now I'm just bored by it. I still think the way that the forum was killed off was awful. I can't remember the last time I played any old stuff at home. I hope he surprises us all sometime, but in the meantime. . .

I can't agree more with how Peter killed the old forum, being horrible. It was bad enough when we lost the PMs with no warning. I would have liked to have saved a few of those. I'm thinking some of the drama there, that troll that take over the boards, and Facebook likely is easier for them. Perhaps easier for him to give the illusion that he's actually posting there.... Forgetting that some a of us don't care much for FB.
As for the kids I mentioned, I was more referring to young bands he's taken under his wing then his own children.
Other than that, I've seen Back to Front, it was fun, but will need something new to get me out to see him again.
He'll I ever missed the last full moon. Sorry for any birthdays I may have missed recently, but laptop is still down and I don't open the desktop mode on the phone too often.
As for here, am happy you and the few others that post are here. There are hints others lurk here, but won't post for whatever reason.

Sorry I misunderstood your "kids" reference. . . I don't know what he's up to with up and coming music other than some of what appears at Womad. It's a while since I've thought about it, but the way things are now just makes me feel a bit sad really - I'm grateful you set this up Zenrider, and I don't know why it doesn't attract more people posting. I think a bit more moderation on the old forum could have sorted out most of the issues - I think it must have been a commercial decision to move to FB - that's the problem, the last few years seem to be mostly about taking things from fans, including as much of their money as possible (I know the old chestnut about people not having to buy tickets etc - I am one of them) but I'm talking about the spirit of the thing.

Sometimes I too wonder if Peter hasn't become what he once hated about the music industry. Though he may not exploit the new bands as badly as he felt he was, one has to wonder.
As for exploiting his fans, like you said I suppose we have some options. Makes one wonder if the sound check without the meet and greet guarantee will sell so well anymore? Then again the new meet and greet option indicates the sound check tickets weren't selling as well this tour. Ironically, there are places still that would like to see his rehashing of the glory days, South America, Mexico, and Australia to name a few. Yet no mention of tours in those places.
As for the box sets and having to buy multiple cd's to get 'every' song, has made me realize I don't need every special recording or live recording, etc. Never been into box sets, as they take up too much room.

Yeah, it's funny just how different countries can be for musicians - sometimes the native country does not have the most fans. I don't mean to go on and on - I think he's become his own tribute act.. but of course it's up to him, or whoever pulls the strings now.

Thanks Zenrider... unfortunately nostalgia is big business and in the absence of new tunes, I guess that's all there is... as long as people keep buying tickets... I wonder who they are? New fans, casual rock concert-goers... just can't imagine anyone who's been a fan since the 70s or 80s being interested. I mean - he's played most of So on and off during the last decade of touring anyway...

I'm thinking Peter's trying to remind people he ever existed. Anyway, Peter was WXRT's (radio station) Friday Featured Artist again this year. That makes twice this year and at least once last year. Genesis has also been featured at least once this year as well. I'm thinking something is coming, it's just he likes to do things at his own slow speed. Let's just hope it's not bringing Front to Back back. Though as mentioned, there may be a continent or two that might yet welcome that. It was fun, especially for those of us that for various reasons weren't able to catch it first run. However, I agree been there done that, can we move on now. Hmmm, perhaps with the new guaranteed meet, some of his fans will egg him on about getting on with it already. Although I'm sorry I missed most of his other concerts as well, I don't need him to revisit all of them. Annoyed as many of his old fans are with his disappearance and seeming utter lack of respect to his fans, turning off PM's with no warning, killing the forum with little warning. As it is new stuff will likely renew our interest enough should he actually release his long hinted at album. Which perhaps should be called AT, for About Time. Just wish I had met a lot of you a long time ago, but was so busy with the horses, work and such, didn't even think of finding his site until several years ago. Of course, a friend had me worked up about something totally unrelated that some of my fist posts were really not for a Peter Gabriel site. I think that's why some of his 'best' fans are still a bit strange with me. Whatever... Anyway, now with everyone following Facebook like moths to a flame. Where he can give a greater illusion of interacting with them, though likely the person posting as Peter more often then not, isn't Peter, I likely won't know what they are thinking about anything new he comes out with anyway.

Well, after some time of not listening to any PG (maybe a year or two) I finally gave in to curiosity and watched the "Back to Front" DVD. I enjoyed hearing some songs that are seldom played live - Family and the Fishing Net and We Do What We're Told were my favourites. . . but the performance as a whole felt like something re-heated once-too-often. Too many shots of the audience clapping along and goofing. . . But when Daby Toure came on for Your Eyes (a song which I have gradually gone from loving to almost hating over the years) I could feel the missing energy that he brought to the stage. . . for most of the set the rest of the band lacked much interaction and the whole thing just plodded along as if on auto-pilot. I've enjoyed all the other PG DVDs over the years, but this was one retread too many. I remember the excitement of buying the video collection "CV" back in the 80s, when PG seemed like an alchemist of art, music and technology. Now it's just the precious metals. Oh Well.

Which is why I'm not that unhappy getting lawn 'seats.' Just hoping they fixed the sound problem they had when I saw him at the Marcus when he was doing the New Blood thing. That was the first year they put another stage near the Marcus Theater. The bleed over was terrible. (no pun intended) I believe it was worst for those on the lawn and the sections to the right of mine. Between sets you could hear mostly the drums and bass from the Hall and Oats concert, during sets the Orchestra and Peter largely drowned them out, but during quieter songs, not so much. I'm going to guess that's been fixed, but who knows.
