I hope this line up will come off and this not a cut and paste job from the announcement last year. I didn't think any international artists will be announced until much nearer the festival I found the website from looking on The Flaming Lips website’s Tour Dates, it had WOMAD 21 as a definite gig for this year, I then clicked on a button that said something like “more details” and it sent me to the songkick website. So the Flaming Lips are certainly intending to come, however will they and other international artists be allowed is the more important question.

The dates also seem to correspond with the artists own websites, which I guess is how they find their way to Songkick. Still keeping fingers crossed though, and there are a number of international artists (not based in the UK) who may still find there are problems with travel. with the vaccination programme in both the uK and the US will there really be any reason why the Flaming Lips would not be able to travel?

There was a report on TV about Boomtown Festival at Winchester, the locals were annoyed to find out it had been given £1 million by the Arts Council. A statement from Boomtown said that other festivals had received large amounts of Money, WOMAD was specifically mentioned as getting a grant.

Probably impossible to calculate but I expect it would be significantly more than the Covid grants given to Womad (and Boomtown). My other other festival (Green Man) is located at Crickhowell in Wales. I am sure the local shops and pubs are desperate for the festival to return in August as a financial boost after Covid lock downs and flooding.

I think the locals there are concerned about the late night Boom Boom of the festival. Although in a nateral bowl(where Eisenhower adressed the troops) it is very affluant and the residents are the polar opposite of the Boomtown profile. Womad is quiet now Chai Chapel cant afford the pitch fees. Yes any festival brings in much local business.

I wonder if Womad are carefully watching over their announcements pending Covid road map and all that. Flaming Lips and Kate tempest hpboth have it scheduled in their tours but are Womad holding back the bigger name attractions (and focussing on the world music to ensure the Womad fan base can get their ticket orders in first)

I would have thought they would put out the big hitters first this year, and just sell sell sell. Unless of course Kea Tempest isn’t in the UK, maybe she’s stuck abroad and unable to travel home yet.

I think the problem is Womad don't know what capacity they can have this year so no need for the hard sell yet. It wouldn't surprise me if they have a "false" capacity at the moment. The plan they have regarding announcements set up seems sensible. You just can't plan too far ahead with this pandemic although it is a bit odd that Kae Tempest has not been announced. That has got me flummoxed!

"The festival has confirmed that all customers 2021 tickets will remain valid for the 2022 event and will automatically roll over. In 2020 over 77% of Boomtown ticket holders helped secure the future of the festival by rolling their tickets over. The event is again asking their customers who are in a position to do so, to help safeguard the festival into 2022."
