Caught an interview with chap from WOMAD on Music Planet on Radio 3 the other on BBC Sounds the other day day (first broadcast on 22nd May). Think the name is Chris Smith. Basically he is saying that providing social distancing rules are relaxed then WOMAD 2021 is full steam ahead! There is clearly going to be logistics in getting too many International based acts booked up with the current status quo. Interesting to hear that getting people to perform is not actually too much of a problem, they are really keen. Some of the issues this year is getting hold of toilets and traders booked up but these issues are being addressed and resolved

Don't know if it's still there, but when I lived in Maidstone I longed to paint an F in front of the Art Gallery... just needed a long ladder.

This was long before Banksy... just the innate vandal in me, I'm afraid.

I am excited about seeing the full moon art installation as I missed seeing it in Bristol. ZR, it is a massive moon, are you still not tempted to book and come over next month? is it me or does worldofart just look wrong? Always tempted, but no way to make the logistics work. Not to mention not really ready to spend 8 hours sardined on a plane yet. 😉

All this talk of Banksy. Reading is now doing open top tour to visit the Banksy that appeared on the walls of Reading Gaol earlier in the year. Sadly the Banksy did get defaced by "Team Robbo" not long after it was put up.

Think we my have a decision from the UK Government soon and there is talk that Rishi Sunak may be persuaded to extend easing of rules by four weeks from the 21st June.
Gonna be tight for Womad, and maybe too tight without any insurance arrangements in place.

A trader we know has told they are not going his year as site rent was too high.
I suspect many are staying away as small crowds mean less income

Decision on extending Covid restrictions will be announced today, looks like another 4 weeks although wonder if there will b3 pressure to go with 2 weeks. Will b3 very tight for Womad and not sure how realistic holding the festival will be if restrictions ar3 only lifted the weeks before, on top of the problems with travel for acts, caterers etc.
I do not envy any of the Womad team at this time.

This year they just feel the financial risk is too great.
