It looks very difficult for Womad to go ahead given the 4 week delay to the lifting of restrictions, no guarantee of no further delay, no insurance etc etc.
The Latitude Festival, due to take place over the Womad weekend, is not giving up hope just yet. They put out this statement last night, stating they will explore options of going ahead with the festival and hoping to provide more info by the end of the week.
We should hear something from Womad today - just wonder if there might still be some hope?

I still haven't given up hope of:
1 - driving through France to Spain this Friday armed with bundles of pandemic and Brexit related paperwork 2 - flying back to the UK just before Womad 3 - attending Womad because Spain will be on the Green List and Womad will be going ahead.
Don't fancy my chances enough to actually buy a ticket yet though...

Beef's post above this one quotes Melvin Benn, saying they ere having basic logistics issues as well. I know Melvin, he wont give up easily, but he is not a pratt, and if its not do able he will throw in the towel rather than fight a battle he cant win.
Several festivals on the same weekend, our youngest has borrowed a tent for kendal Calling. This is now right up to the wire.
A tense week for everyone.

No news yet can only mean they haven’t thrown in the towel and given up, but rather they are looking at options 🤞

Black Deer festival, which was due to go ahead next week, has of course now been cancelled. It's heartbreaking to see things like this happening, particularly knowing one man's ego is the cause.
They say they will be back next year, and I hope they will be. It's an excellent festival by the way, trying to do something a little different musically, and I thoroughly recommend it. There must be some doubt given the inevitable financial implications though.

Labour are calling Delta the "Johnson variant"... just hope it sticks and doesn't backfire... enough people are so blind to Johnson's devious uselessness that criticism can easily damage the critic the most...

After dealing with SARS Singapore and some other Asian countries made law that derision during pandemics would be left to the scientist
We wish all part of the UK to that advice

... sad, but unsurprising... hope it will still work out, but that seems unlikely now. I'm amazed that they got so far in the planning for this year to go ahead - perhaps it made more sense to try than not to. I just hope we can all get back to Womad next year, if not this.

Here's hoping for happy news, but it sounds like it's going to be a close call.

I hope the Govt do cover the risk of a further delay for early summer festivals, the Govt would want them to happen as a massive moral lifter for the country. Not only for the festival goers but also for the rest of the population watching the news and seeing people having a good time and normality returning. It’s important for Governments to raise spirits, hopes and aspirations. It would be a relatively low cost win for them and they like all parties want votes. It could be a simple scheme of underwriting risks of approved events being undertaken within 4 weeks of a planned relaxation of freedoms.

I agree sc... trouble is I honestly can't remember the last time the Gov lifted my spirits about anything.

Peter Gabriel is interviewed on the Radio 4 Today programme this morning. Probably too late to catch it live but may be worth a listen on bbc radio catch up. He will be talking about the dire situation for festivals and the desperate need for some support from the Government.
So far, still does not bode well and don’t know how keen the Government will be to help out what is an important part of the economy.

So far, still does not bode well and don’t know how keen the Government will be to help out what is an important part of the economy. I heard it, just after I woke and turned the radio on at about 7:30am. Sounds like it is basically down to if the govt will insure the festivals against having to cancel late into planning (and even building) as commercial insurers don't sound keen to take them on It can be listened to here at the 1:32:14 point: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000x0ty (no idea if it can be played outside of the UK, sorry) Then go forward on the same programme to around 2:17:28 when a Treasury minister is quizzed about it (amongst other things)... not that you'll hear anything resembling an answer, of course...
