Seems the UK has been having some fun weather. Almost like mine, but we expect snow and wind and cold, sometimes towards the extreme here this time of year. Though the last couple of weeks here have been more on the mild side then is the norm. Not as mild as some years, but not bad really.

Well, here on the south coast it's been cold and sunny all week - no snow - just hard morning frost - temps hovering between -5 and 0. It's not usually a windy time of year, and the snow turns up some years, others not. I'm not very good at noticing or remembering the weather, except when I'm out in it. I had a dream last night though, where I could see a massive tornado through the window, ripping up everything - dreams are usually my most extreme weather.

Glad to hear it. Tried to call my friend in the Shetlands, but it went straight to voice mail. She's been in hospital recently, she wouldn't give specifics, but it's not uncommon for her to lose power or phone there either. Gonna worry until I hear from her anyway.

I can't imagine what it must be like to live somewhere like that. . . I'm sure it's wonderful if a little extreme at times. Hope you hear from your friend soon - I'm sure it'll be ok - but what would we do if we didn't worry?

Yes, well, when she was talking about retiring to the islands, I'm not sure the Shetlands were on the top of her list. Though she's really only sort of retired, as she still runs her marketing company, just from a distance. Ah, the things the internet allows. If it weren't for horses I may never had met her, as she was originally an imaginary internet friend, until we actually met in person the first time in April of 2004 at a horse show in Kentucky. Her and several other horse crazy exrace horse owners and/or lovers. I saw her again in person when I visited the UK in May 2006 and we went to the Badminton Horse Trials. She was living in Sunbury on the Thames back then. She and I have been in touch ever since, besides the internet, we've shared occasional care packages and talk on the phone from time to time. Though for whatever reason, her phones keep going straight to voice mail. As it is, that's the thing about worry, you only do it for the ones you really care about. I am worried, but there are no big red flags yet that it isn't just weather related issues. Which seem to be fairly common in the Shetlands this time of year. Wish I could just drop by and check in on her. Favorite pics from when I got across the pond in 2006: Favorite picture I took of her and her and her ex's/her horse Edgie: Bara even let me goof about on her horse Forry (short for Foreigner, as he's a Belgium Warmblood). He's still in Windsor, sometimes working in movies. Set of War Horse. I love that his WWI rider is checking his cell phone: Anyway, worried, but not panicked yet.

She's checked in. Has not had power for several days, but is otherwise well.

That's good news - funny how we worry so much about things we don't know or can't control....
