we missed it, hopefully we'll be able to watch it on catch up will they be renaming one of the stages at WOMAD, Brian? Seems only fair - as we know it was BP who invented world music.... yes, with out Brian world music would have been lost forever may be they should name the bandstand after Brian P

I was quite looking forward to Buxton's film festival starting in a few weeks, but I've just had a look at the programme and frankly I'm really quite disappointed! There's quite a few films that I would like to see, but they are on during weekday afternoons so I won't be able to get to them - that happens every year though, I accept that. But in the evenings they have films like Fantastic Beasts, Arrival, Moonlight, Paterson, A United Kingdom. All good films I'm sure (I've seen Arrival and it is very good!) but not what I'd expect from what has in previous years been billed as "A festival of world cinema" where I've seen some amazing productions that I wouldn't normally have seen. Instead, although there are still one or two interesting looking films I can get to, it seems to be dominated by a bunch of very recent big films that I could have seen at the Odeon over the past few months... buxtonfilm.org.uk.gridhosted.co.uk/festival-2017/Ok, so I have finally booked to see a couple of films in the Sunny Buxton Film Festival... Snowden on Wednesday evening (presumably not about the mountain, or the recently deceased royal), and on Saturday evening Under The Shadow - "Set in 1980s Tehran this Iranian horror film has been an on-line hit. A mother and her young child are living alone during the Iran-Iraq war and supernatural forces seem to invade their apartment. More than that she has to cope with the cultural restrictions on her lifestyle. The tension is sure to get to you in this expertly paced film"... although I seem to have messed up a bit by forgetting that Saturday evening is also the opening episode of the latest season of Doctor Who! Oops... Well, I can watch this film and should get home by about 9pm, then hopefully I'll be able to watch Doctor Who on the iPlayer before heading pubwards

Last film from our Maidstone Film Society season, until September's new season, was tonight. Watched "Men and Chicken" story of two brothers who, when their Father dies they find a video he recorded for them, some family secrets are revealed that they then investigate, travelling to an isolated Danish Island with a population of 42, meeting other brothers that they didn't know existed, who were living in squaller, really weird black comedy, involving lots of violence using a variety of stuffed animals, girders and bath tubs, as weapons, chickens are too numerous to mention, a Bull in the cellar and multi brother bed sharing at "bed time story time". Totally weird, expect the weird and it will be weirder, lots of sub-titles which being dyslexic I found difficult to keep up with and I started getting a bit frustrated with 3/4 of the way through. Ending, however, as so often with the weird ones was brilliant, with a wonderful wonderment of the wonderment of life. Because of my frustration I only give it a 5/10, but if you are a fast reader you would appreciate it more than I
