BTW, there have been marches before, Chicago has been having these marches for a long time now. Far too long. Hopefully, now that it's gone national something can happen, but as for America, the judge positions the Republicans that are deep in the NRA's (weapo0ns manufacturers) pockets are busy filling as fast as they can. Positions that should have been filled during President Obama's Presidency. As it is, voting the Republicans that have been complicate to so many horrible things may not be enough. As, they have filled the judicial system with judges that are equally corrupt. It's going to be a long hard road. On a personal note, the first person I knew to lose a brother to gun violence in Chicago was a Sergeant I knew when I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford, oh so long ago. I was his friend before he was the first in my chain of command. His brother was shot and killed in December of 1990. Probably cost me a ribbon before I left Upper Heyford while he was on emergency leave, as he was my Sgt. That's OK, he had much more important things to deal with. He grew up in the notorious Cabrini Green and was the absolute kindest person you could ever have as a friend. Here's to hope. It is sad to read when you say ‘the first parson I knew to lose a brother to gun violence’. Sounds like you know more, and most (if not all) Americans know someone who has lost a relative if not been caught up in gun violence themselves. i really hope this is the time and these are the protests that will get bigger until they manage to change gun ownership in America.

Yes,it is. Fortunately, I have not lost anyone close to me, but have met others that have. We have a lot of people at work that live in Chicago, so it's inevitable to know someone who has lost someone. What's weird is most gun nuts in the USA have little to fear from gang violence, but more to fear from an increase of suicide from merely having a gun in the house. Not to mention being killed by a domestic partner. Yet they ignore those realities to embrace irrational fears.

There was a camp next to the base, by the k9 training area, they really didn't do much most of the time I was there. Then again that was when the Soviet Union fell and the wall around Berlin came down. A more hopeful time than now where everyone wants to build walls and flex muscles.

Although it pains me to say it but Theresa May has shown great international leadership and we are grateful for all the governments around the world taking action against Russia (a big contrast to Corbyn who just dithered about ‘evidence’). When a foreign nation does its dirty business in your own country, a policeman being seriously harmed and many others at long term risk, action must be taken. It is also apparent that this seems to be the breaking point of democracies getting fed up with all the covert actions made by Russia around the world, I learned on Sunday that Russia is arming Talaban groups in Afghanistan, to target civilians as well as the fledglin* Afghan army and international soldiers (our own troops).

Yes it does seem to be "The straw that broke the camels back". I agree with what is happening and we do need to wait for the official testing to confirm it is Russia. Personally I think what is really upsetting "the West" is not this incident alone but rather Russia's invasions of, Crimea, Ukraine and Georgia. There is huge guilt that we stood back from Syria and let Russia do want it likes. But what really upset The West was the cyber warfare, the effects on elections, the referendum, democracy, interfering industry and infrastructure IT. Governments could not allow it to continue, I think they had just been waiting for something like this poisoning to come along so they could fight back in a timely fashion, and additionally allow May to start bringing the country back together. I don't think it will come to war, trade is the bigger weapon, Russia has a smaller economy than Italy and areas of poverty like a third world country. With Trump in power (am I really saying this?), North Korea is becoming less of a threat but may still trade with Russia unless we buy them off, if Trump starts trading with North Korea once North Korea destroys it's nuclear ambitions, why would North Korea choose Russia as a friend? China would side with the West as we are vastly bigger customers. Russia would then become pretty isolated and hopefully start behaving itself.

Also, (rant continues), I really don't know how Labour is going to sort itself out. We have, I am sure, all seen and heard anti-semitism from the extreme left, it has been there all our lives. It's just for most of our lives those on the extreme or hard left have not been members of The Labour Party, whereas since the personality cult of Corbyn has started they have all been welcomed in, resulting in many Labour members holding anti-semitic views (and they probably don't see it in themselves), but because they are now part of a mainstream Centre Left Party they no longer consider themselves hard Left but rather Moderates. Corbyn has started referring to his own beliefs as the new centre ground, he has shifted the centre left. So how can he resolve this? Let's say, (pure guess) 10% of Labour Members hold anti-semitic views, so that's 50,000 members out of total membership of 500,000. How do you uncover and throw them out of the party? Does Labour Head Office have the time or manpower to search through half a million Facebook accounts trying to find members anti-semitic posts? No it's not going to happen. I cannot see a way forward for this proud and just party, such a shame, it reminds me of the opening line of a song someone here posted a while ago "When you get power, don't piss in your water supply" (probably mis-quoted but you get the gist)

There is a difference between anti- Semitic and anti Zionist. It needs good leadership to ensure there can be criticism of a state that is pushing out Palestinian residents in favour of Jewish illegal settlements without placing the blame on people sharing the same ancestry. Corbyn failed on this by not understanding the racial slurs contained in the mural which he defended on Twitter/Facebook and brought the current protest on himself. IMHO he at best let us down over brexit (at worst stabbed us in the back), has dithered over Russian aggression showing poor international leadership and is now unable to give an authoritative lead regarding Israel. There was a reason why he was a backbench mp for so many years and it is now becoming so clear why that was.

It's like reading a replay of stories made up by the mainstream media, not something I would expect on here.

I have just sussed the current MacDonalds advert. you know, the one where the kids dance with enthusiasm when their parents tell them ‘Mackey D’s’. Just like when you have a pet dog and say ‘walkies’ or show a lead, the little canine will also run round with enthusiasm knowing a walk with treats is to come. just shows that Ronald MacDonald knows the psychology in its advertising and relies on parents to train their kids like their pets. The food might taste like crap but so long as it creates a happy time for children then they will always want to come back for more.

Yes indeed, and their Logo of the two golden arches, I had been told, were not the M from McDonald's but rather the shape of a woman's legs "welcoming" you home i.e. laying down, legs spread and knees bent, subliminal message; "You want to enter". I've just googled it and apparently the real reason for the Golden Arches is that they subliminally represent "nourishing breasts" and are therefore attractive... I prefer the version I was told

I prefer the version I was told Either way, I do not want to read about being arrested for gross indecency after giving in to your basic instincts and trying to climb up And mount a set of Golden Arches. whichever subliminal message is the spur to motivate your inner desires, it will be messy!

Yes, he might have made the differance over brexit, but he remains (radically some might say) left and has now shown his inability to morph into a statesman; a vital skill if he is to succeeed May. Unless he gains supporters from those who voted Tory last time he won't win a future election. He neither looks like nor acts like a PM in waiting; he's not going to change, he would have done it by now. I would suggest for that reason he needs to go. May looks battered but has come out of the EU with a deal that will appease the votors who as we know dont look too deeply at anything. Great.
