- I'm being made redundant on 30th June with not much of a payout. I've got mixed feelings and I'm worried how I'm going to manage financially. Any tips on how to make my meagre Β£81 a week works pension stretch further?
- Doctor thinks I may be diabetic. Anyone else out there whose pancreas is broken?
- Budget - I'm hoping Osborne will have a rethink about making fair transitional arrangements for all women born on or after 6th April 1951, but I don't expect he will. What do you think might be revealed in the budget?
- Did anyone see the article in Guardian about the Work and Pensions Select Committee Report suggesting that some women could be offered a chance to give up work earlier with a reduced pension? What do you think of that idea?

there was one of the tv doc who was diagnosed as diabetic but he refused to take the meds and changed his diet and it help level his blood sugars
Del has been made redundant 4 times in his life and it no fun even when you don't like the job. Speak to a welfare rights worker (your local SW office, council office or housing assassination should be able to refer you to one) to make sure you get access to what your entitled too (DWP don't give out advice you need to ask them for what your entitled too and if you don't know what to ask for then that's tough).
Osborne is a not a nice man
Good luck

Hi, Speak to the union about the money thing. I think I may be booted out soon, same sphere of work, unless it makes a profit get rid of it, helping people does not make money and has to go. More cuts for all the non protected areas of public service, they will be killed off or so crippled by the end of this 4 year term; sadly there is no protest about this. Del is correct about the disbetic thing, I will pm you. Del is wrong about Mr Osbourne he is actually worse- he's a F$%&*g shit that is so out of touch will any kind of reality it its unbelievable.

You can also speak to the Citizens Advice Bureaux, they would give impartial advice as to what benefits etc you would be entitled to.

Sorry to hear about the redundancy, PD - I've been through four too; volunteered for the last one; I really had had enough. Difficult not to take the first one personally, but please try; it is the job that is being made redundant; not you and you're still good to go! And please remember that you are far, far more than a job description. I haven't got anything more to add to the good advice already given re the financial side of things. Check everything out well in advance so you know what you'll have and not worry about unknowns. You never know - you may not have diabetis, or may be borderline (the goalposts were moved on this as well, I think?)or well within your control through diet; nothing you can't handle, I'm sure I second Desert Traveller's opinion on Osbourne. Can barely bring myself to watch or listen to the budget today other than for the fact we need to know. I read the Guardian article yesterday; I'll be a 67 starter anyway, so won't have the option, but think is a good one for anyone who needs or wants to take it up, in as much as it is preferable to their being no option at all.

I can see why you're thrilled Jax, they are lovely colourful little birds. We are fortunate in that we often see these in our garden, feeding on niger seeds and sunflower hearts. We had a couple of siskins in our garden the other day - not very often we see these.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the good advice. Never fear, I've been in the union for many years and my rep has been very supportive. I also have a friend who works at the Jobcentre which is conveniently just over the road from my house so I can pop in for advice when I need it. Luckily she's based on the information desk and she has a lot of knowledge in this area as she's being made redundant herself soon. As for Tories, well I haven't got much time for any of them. I'm actually thinking of buying one of these purple t shirts for wearing round town when I retire. Tory Blue V My Purple Anger....but only when I retire as they are currently my paymasters

.......and here's my lost vinyl list:
The Stones, Let it Bleed, Beggars Banquet, The Rolling Stones (1964), Get Yer Ya Yas Out, Big Hits, High Tide and Green Grass. Emerson, Lake and Palmer, (1970) Led Zepplin, Led Zeppling III Axe Attack with Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Ian Gillan, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Rainbow and Whitesnake (goodness knows why I bought this one)
These have been either stolen, borrowed or left in the loft at my mums. I must find out. Hmm, reminds me of the list of books, tapes and CD's that I've loaned to folks and never had returned.

Love the T-shirt, PD. Sorely tempted to get one myself.
As for this govt--they make Thatcher's shower of bastards look like the little sisters of the poor. Mark my word, in four years, the country we recognise will be gone. The NHS, BBC, public services all brought to their knees in favour of the private interests of the 1%. Osborne yesterday cut taxes whilst reducing benefit payments to the disabled. If there were no other proof available, that would be more than enough to conclusively say that his budget and their policies in general are anything but ideologically opposed to progressivism.
We have sleep-walked into 10 years of tory rule with no effective opposition. Unfortunately, we on the left need a genuine uniting voice and there is none that I can see. Hard to see an end to this coming even in 4 years.
Sorry. Rant over. And really sorry to hear about your redundancy PD.

Hard to see an end to this coming even in 4 years. This is true, Shindig0, the Liberals are effectively dead, Labour has reacted to the right wing government by it's leaders lurching to an equal position on the left. There is no effective party that can represent the people who sit in the "Centre Right", "Centre" or "Centre Left". If I use Kent County Council as an example (my County), Tory controlled and the official opposition? UKIP for Gods sake! Liberals will take 10 years at least to be forgiven, so we can forget them for now, but what the hell is Labour doing??? The Labour leadership should shape it's self up and act like it is ready to lead one of the strongest Countries in the World on the World stage and stop acting like they are members of a private school boys debating society. GET OUT THERE LABOUR AND LEAD THIS COUNTRY.

Ugh, has your doctor done a blood test? My grandparents (mother) both were diabetic. Not that it didn't have it's issues, they managed very well into their late 80's and quite nearly made it to 90yo each. As for politics, at least you don't have Trump running for office there....yet.
