I've bought everything that I link to here... that's how I know it.. and if someone else likes it maybe they will buy it too.. or stream it on Spotify or something. It's a mistake to think that every share is a lost sale. Unless it's blatant piracy for profit I think a certain amount of sharing music has always been a good thing, cassette, MP3 or YouTube. Remember taping songs off the radio?

Obviously on my youtube channels I blatantly use copyright material. However, I always consider it as me giving free marketing. I once emailed Steve Hillage about it and asking him for permission to use his material. His response was "Go for it" and looking at his response and Youtube copyright policy, it seems to be: The artists and/or their lawyers set the level of tolerance, - The best level is when the artist is very pleased that their music is getting out there, they place no restrictions. - At the other end of the scale are those that say "No way, this our work, if you want it pay for it!" This level automatically "mutes" your whole video (not just their track). Some artists at this level are not surprising at all and totally expected, with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin etc which are now just big Corporate entities run by their Accountants. - in between the two then you have the "banned in certain Countries" - I seem to get banned from Germany or Banned on certain instruments, so I can be viewed on PC's and lap-tops but not on phones or tablets If you do have copyrighted material that has not been muted then Youtube will place either a banner advert across the bottom of your video or an advert at the beginning, and income generated from the advert is channelled through to the Artist whose copyrighted material has been used. The Artist does therefore get a payment. My channels are not commercialised and so generate no money, three reasons for that 1) Very low hit rate, over two channels I think the payment rate is something like £6 per 10,000 hits!!! It just isn't worth it!! 2) I do it for fun not business 3) As I regularly use copyright material, if I did get into any sort of trouble I would rather be able to prove that I was just doing it for fun and not making money on the back of artists hard work. What does annoy me is that when putting a clip together you have no idea if it is on the "mute" list or not until you put it up there!

Yeah, the copyright and such rules on YouTube can be a bit infringing... Like the 'not available in your country' yet you can find the exact same video in your country. Much as I get it to one degree, some that complain shouldn't, because their music and such has never been so popular. Think free advertising, and very few on YouTube are making a lot of money or any. I haven't made a dime. I also, haven't really tried. Then again, none of mine are the type that are likely to go viral, which is OK. Such a beautiful rendition of "We'll meet again", So how about Johnny Cash's most honest album, so it's the whole album, listen as far as you want Pure genius, pure honesty, total connection
